Wedding dress time

Hannah, 28 September, 2022 at 22:36 Posted on Wedding Attire 0 9
Hey, I've booked my wedding for May 2023 as there was a cancellation and I'm worried how long it usually takes to get a dress!! 8 months is surely enough time isn't it??

I ordered mine in May and its come in this week. However my veil is only due in in December so it totally depends on supplier and the designer of the dress you choose Smiley smile x

It depends on the designer. I ordered mine in June, and it was due in, in December but I pushed it back to February. Apparently most Maggie Sottero’s take about 6 months (without rush fees) but then alterations would need to come after this.

It’s not too late depending on the designer and what you’re after. Off the rack (e.g. Wed2Be) or ex-sample sales are available immediately. Individual designers will have different times, so it’s worth thinking about what you want and contacting/getting appointments with a few dress shops that stock those designers, as appropriate.
Have fun with it, I’m sure it’ll be a busy few months getting everything planned Smiley smile

I ordered mine in June, for my June 2023 wedding, and it's due in December, but as Lisa said it all depends on the designer, mine is also a Maggie Sottero so can take a bit longer. A friend of mine got hers a month before her wedding from wed2be, so it's definitely doable!

    Good luck!

If you're going for a traditional bridal boutique rather than off the rack - go now! The boutiques in my area advised a minimum of 9 months in advance to avoid rush prices or certain styles being unavailable to you due to the lead time. Wedding dress shopping is unlike anything else! Remember you also need to factor in alterations as well, my boutique said the standard is 4 weeks in advance and 8 weeks in advance for the two fittings, so your dress needs to come in in time for your first fitting with the seamstress as well.

I ordered my dress in May and it’s due to come in anytime now! It you’re going for a boutique, I’d get shopping now! Some shops offer a fast track/expedite if you need it w but this often costs a fair bit. Alternatively you could look at buying 2nd hand or off the rack x

It depends what kind of dress you want and where you are looking. If you find something you like from a high street store then you can get that within a week.

I got engaged at the end of October and went dress shopping the week after for a wedding at the end of June the following year. I was advised by every shop I spoke to that I needed to order within the next couple of weeks to avoid extra charges or not being able to get the dress I wanted in time.

Of course, you can buy sale samples, second hand, high street or mail order with a much shorter time frame. But if you want the full choice from a bridal boutique, you need to be sorting it now.

My boutique has a turnaround of 4-5 months so it can be done! Even with a boutique. David's bridal also has a fairly quick turnaround of like 2 months or so from what I recall.

Also if you bought a sample dress or a used or new one off stillwhite, or from a vendor like wed2b where you buy dresses off the rack, then you could have a dress very quickly. Lots of etsy dressmakers also have a faster turnaround than mainstream boutiques.
