Wedding dress worry - please help me

LuxuriousOrangeDecor504, 23 February, 2016 at 11:45 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hello everyone,

I was after some advice. I found the perfect dress and ordered it in June last year (my wedding is July this year). I was originally told that my dress would be ready in December '15 but after weeks of chasing they called mid Jan to say it had something wrong with it and that it would now be end of Feb / beginning of March but after chasing all day to day by all means of contact I am yet to have a response form them.

It's a dress shop called Blissful Gifts Bridal in Gloucester, I found the dress in a shop near Solihull but after some hunting around I found it over £ 800 cheaper and after checking it was the actual designer Allure dress I was after I travelled there, tried it on and it was perfect so ordered it in my size/colour etc.

I have not heard anything back at all and have only 4 months until my wedding, has anyone had any experience with this store or advice on what I should do?

Many thanks all

Wendy x

Oh no! Nightmare! I would probably star by contacting the designer directly. They might be able to let you know why there is a delay (is it the shipping or perhaps the shop didn't order the dress until really late, is the shop even an authorised seller?). You'll then be in a better position to deal with the shop. To be honest, a saving of over £800 seems a little too good to be true, as most prices are more or less set by the designer.

You still have options for a last minute dress, samples are an excellent example. You can get a designer dress at a fraction of the price and take it away on the day. Of course you then have to deal with the shop to sort out refunds if you decide not to hang around and see if your dress comes in.

Good luck, I have huge sympathy for last minute disasters!

I'd go to the shop - they can't ignore you then!

Could it hopefully just be they close Mondays? You could check Facebook or websites for any clues and hopefully get hold of them tomorrow. I agree if I don't hear I would be going to the shop. Fingers crossed it's all fine.

I think you should write to the shop via recorded delivery. Send a letter stating that "time is of the essence to our contract" and giving them 7 days to produce the dress or you will be cancelling due to their breach of contract.

If they can't produce your dress speak to trading standards and go buy the other one. You will then have to obtain your money back from the first shop.

Hi the saving could be real as I found my Allure dress for £500 cheaper at a different shop and it's perfect. I think the fact that prices aren't published anywhere means many shops really hike their prices up. I would definitely travel to the shop right away to speak to them face to face. They'll realise then how worried you are.

I agree, keep calling and if nothing by end of tomorrow, go there. Then they can't ignore you. Demand answers.

If the worst happens, as said above, try not to despair as options for preloved or sample dresses are huge and I am certain you will find a dress you love just as much!

    Hi Wendy,

I had exactly the same problem and it all worked out find in the end so please don't worry too much. I ordered my dress in July for my wedding in July the following year. I was told it would be there in January when I ordered it so I waited and I didn't get a phone call so I rang them and was then told March and then I still didn't hear anything so I went to the shop with my mom and was told April which is when it did eventually come. At the time I was furious but in hindsight it was fine and I got myself overly stressed about nothing. I had plenty of time for fittings etc and it all worked out fine in the end. I'm sure the shop has it all in hand but it is wrong that they told you to expect it in December. A lot of shops don't like holding too many dresses in the warehouse in case of a fire etc so they only hold what the need to for closest wedding. It turns out the shop I had mine from did it on a rota basis depending on when you get married for example July brides dresses come in April, June brides dresses come in March, May brides dresses come in February and so on. Which would have been fine if they had told me that when I had ordered it. My advice would be to continue trying to contact the shop and if you still have no luck, visit the shop in person (I know it might involve some travelling). This is what I did in the end and because they didn't want me to make a scene in front of a shop full of potential brides they couldn't "fob" me off like they kept doing over the phone. I found this the best way of getting answers and putting my mind at rest.

Hope this helps but please don't worry too much, even though it doesn't feel like it you still have plenty of time

    Laura
