Wedding Entertainment ideas!

_Tinderella_, 10 November, 2017 at 11:41 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hey all, I'm looking for some 'different' ideas for entertainment for the big day. Originally I had hoped to get a magician as I love magic but my fiancé isn't too keen on the idea.

We would like something a little unusual and just struggling for ideas.

Also, has anyone got any idea of how to keep guests entertained in the part between the actual ceremony and the meal?

Thanks!

    Hey!

Like you I wanted a magician but my htb was not on board at all! He said it was tacky & that no one would want to get involved.

But I really liked the idea & couldn’t find anything I preferred so I made an appointment to meet with a local magician who had been recommended to me & dragged htb along.

Meeting him & seeing what he could do totally changed htb’s mind! He got on really well with him, liked the fact that he was actually a young trendy bloke (not tacky at all) & he was flummoxed at all of the tricks he did. He had such a good time that I think he realised how the guests would feel.

Perhaps the same could work for you....

    Hey Smiley smile

So firstly I'll say this: A magician is probably perfect haha

What is it about a magician that your fiancé is put off by? They're really cool these days and will mix and mingle between your guests. If he's worried that it will be a bit cheesy or intrusive then I can assure you it's not the way magicians run things at weddings! It's all about street magic and mind reading now which your guests will be talking about for a long time to come.

If it is out of the question though there is certainly loads more you can do that's a little bit different. I don't know if you've already considered a caricaturist but they are great fun. Most guests won't have seen one before and they'll even get a memento drawing to take home with them which is ace.

Now if you really want something that will be remembered... I'd see if you can get a lookalike or impersonator to come in for that part of the day and hang out with your guests. Most popular ones I work with include Del Boy, Jack Sparrow, Gordon Ramsay etc. Really good for photo opportunities too and they are absolutely hilarious.

Truth is the world is your oyster in that part of the day. Don't rule out live music either! It doesn't have to be a main focal point, just some cool acoustic background or laid back jazz sets the tone nicely. Hope this helps.

    Hey Tinderella,

If you can talk your husband to be into it we have worked with someone called Luca Gallone. He does magic but with a bit of a twist. He's really cool and funny and on the weddings we have been on with him the guests and wedding party loved it.

Or....a live lounge duo playing cool tunes can get guests feeling chilled and in a party spirit without being too 'in your face' if you know what I mean.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Tinderella,

When I got married last year my husband and I had lots of entertainment and I would recommend all 3 of our suppliers.

I don’t know where you live but our wedding was in Hertfordshire and we had a caricaturist during the immediate champagne reception (I think he was called Bill something), as the evening guests arrived we had a mixologist making cocktails and also the most amazing and fun balloons made my Miss Ballooniverse. The balloons were really fun and a good talking point as nearly every guest got a different wearable one. Also had a great magician called Christopher Whitelock, he has lots of videos on his website you could show your fiancé so he can have a proper look at how it might be if you’re still keen on magic. At the end of the night we had fireworks and sparklers, but this was not worth the money for me because although I love fireworks it was quite an effort to make all our guests leave the marquee to go and watch them and neither our photographer or videographer got any good pictures to remember them by. All our guests have obviously seen fireworks before so they didn’t really enjoy them or feel as wowed as I hoped and I think we could have spent the money on something better looking back.

    Hope that helps xx

We had a caricaturist during that bit between wedding and reception - he was very well received. We also had an amazing singer who was with us all day long too - would be fair to call him an all-round entertainer actually - he sang, did the master of ceremony bits etc... If you're in Yorkshire, check out Steven Heath - he's just won regional sole/duo artist of the year of the recent wedding awards.

A friend of mine managed to get a professional pick-pocket to "mix and mingle" - very interesting responses from some of the guests! I suppose that in some ways they are artists / magicians but who knows if everything was returned?

Wow that takes hiring mix and mingle entertainers to another level!

I checked to see if we had any on our books in the variety / speciality entertainment categories but found none at the moment however there are some very interesting and surprising acts that might be worth checking out.
