Wedding favours?

Jade, 1 of April of 2023 at 18:28 Posted on Etiquette and Advice 0 22
We are undecided on whether to even do wedding favours - I am slightly leaning towards a no, owing to the additional cost (and the fact that no one seems to be bothered about getting one?).

Has anyone got any ideas for things that are reasonably priced that people would actually WANT and appreciate? Or even alternative ideas?

My experience with other weddings suggests that anything for guests to take away, especially if it's personalised for the wedding, tends to get left on the table. No one wants a fridge magnet with someone else's wedding date on it.

We mixed Celebrations and Quality Street tins into little boxes for each guest. They only got about 3/4 so most seemed to go before the starters came out and people swapped with other guests if they didn't like the flavours they had. We didn't notice any empty boxes at the end of the night.

I don't think it's something guests will miss so if you are leaning towards no then don't worry about them.

I’m not bothering, just another cost you don’t need. People will remember whether the food was decent or not and there was adequate refreshments/alcohol!

My daughter is having biscuits with the guest's name on. Favour and place names all in one.

We’ve done shots of lemoncello for ours, bought mini glass bottles cheap on Facebook marketplace, then bought big 1L bottles of lemoncello cheap from Italy and filled them ourselves and made our own labels. Total cost for 100 favours is less than £100 and anyone drinking on the day will definitely appreciate and use it, and those who aren’t can either take them home or give to someone else who is.

I understand your thoughts on costs so we have decided to print place names and menus on SEED PAPER so they can be taken home and planted if the guests wish and if any are left on the tables we will gather them up an plant them ourselves.

I thinks its working out cheaper than place cards !!

I’m ordering wildflower seed packets which are personalised with each guests name so it doubles up as a place card and a favour.
I was also planning to buy the swizzles personalised “just married” love hearts which work out only 0.29p each for the evening guests… but they recently changed the packaging to plastic cellophane (previously pink foil) so decided not to bother as I’m trying to keep my wedding eco-friendly!

Ditching the favours is a great way of saving money and reducing environmental impact. I don't think anyone will be remotely fussed either way. But if you want something, I'd go for edibles. (Just please not those horrible 'gendered' favours - I'm a very non girly girl, and my pet hate is going to a wedding where the guys get a box of fudge and the girls get a little pink cardboard handbag with shoe-shaped chocolates inside Smiley atonished Smiley laugh )

We were having acrylic place names to cover that and favors (we didn’t want favors but thought it was a keepsake at the end of the day) but we were at a wedding recently and they had the same thing. We’ve came home and now it’s in our top trash drawer so we are now not having any of them. Saving us I think it was £150!

Our venue has a sweet cart free for use we just have to fill it ourselves. I have a wholesale account so will go there for my sweets and that can be the favours.

We are doing glasses with peoples names on, this way it doubles up as a wedding favour and a name setting. We are also having wax melts made in our wedding scents and will be giving one of each to our guests.

We had wax melts! We did them in our perfume scents and gave them out with a burner we got a bulk buy on, so many people have since asked where we got the melts and have now ordered more from our friends business who made them which is great!

We got married on Saturday and as it’s nearly Easter, we bought 4 x 1kg bags of mini eggs, some organza bags, and I made labels. We had none left over, so everyone either ate them or took them. Perfect!

We are doing similar to the Limoncello suggestion above, except with bourbon and passion fruit vodka (not mixed together!) found labels on Etsy and empty bottles on Amazon - I think they will go down well! x

We’ve already gor a candy cart and fun casino at our wedding. Our “favours” are going to be a small chocolate/after eight. With the meal and drinks included in the package, plus the above mentioned, I don’t feel guilty at all about it!
