Wedding finish time??

Mrs P 2 B, 3 March, 2011 at 13:40 Posted on Planning 0 26

Hi Ladies..

I'm looking at a few venues in the Warwickshire area and the finish times vary.

I love a venue but the finish time is 11.30 and no extension is allowed - Does this seem very early to anyone?? The venue tell me by that time I will want to finish!!

Another venue will offer till 1am finish but when i asked them this they were very patronising telling me... who wants stragglers at a wedding and they are pointless and a waste of money unless we have a big wedding which at 180-200 peps at night i thought it was but apparently it's small!!!

What time are your venues finishings?? Anyone having a late bar?? Its so hard to decide!!

Thanks

Love

We are booked until 12pm but can extend till 1am for another £300 venue fee and £80 DJ fee. TBH we are not going to do it - it's going to be an emotionally knackering day and I doubt we will want to go home and straight to bed - I am imagining there may be a few drinks had in the hotel bar, then I need to get out my dress.

From reading lots of other wedding reports some couples tend to read their cards or guest book on the night before bed, or go for a walk. One Hitcher even let off some laterns - just the two of them I think - so in summary, No I don't think it's too early for us.

Our dj is booked til 12. and the bar closes at 12 in the main room- but the hotel said to us that ppl staying in the hotel can go too another bar in the hotel and drink til about 4am!- As we have the whole hotel to ourselves i think they will let us stay in the same room- and have some music on. i will be in bed though- or in the jauzi (sp!) bath in my room Smiley smile

We had the option of extending our night to 1am but have decided to stick to midnight. I think 11:30pm would be fine after a long day. I've left a wedding before 11pm before, it's tiring enough being a guest!

Ours finishes at midnight but all of our guests are staying at our venue so there is a bar that can stay open till 4am if we wish! I'm not sure I'll make it that late! 11:30pm sounds early but is really only 30mins less than most venues offer...

I think 11.30 is fine. We originally agreed to this although since booking they have extended it to 1.00am so thats a bonus.

And residents bar will go on until the last person wants to go to bed - mangers discretion obviously.

Out here in NI most weddings finish at 1.00.... its the norm. There are a few times that I think it would have been better to have finished at half 11 or 12 because people who are travelling home tend to start leaving. Saying that, there are plenty of weddings where the room is still full at 1.... we're made of tough stuff out here!

Ours finishes at 10pm, but could have had it finish at 11 or 12, depending on start time. I chose earliest as wedding is Sunday evening & making the most of the daylight due to the views. Also, most people staying in a hotel nearby, so those that want to stay up & drink, can do so at the hotel bar with me!

Our venue requests that all non-guests are vacated by midnight.

We plan to leave around 11.00pm and hope that by then most people will be ready to leave because they've had such a great time they're worn out, rather than the party dying a slow painful death with an ever decreasing, ever loud group hanging around the bar.

In "the good old days" the bride and groom would leave about 7pm to go on their honeymoon and the reception party went on without them.

Knowing our guest list, I would be surprised if that many people are still there as late as 11pm anyway, and we're not all night party people either it suits us fine.

I'm normally quite ready to leave and go to bed by 11pm, although OH could stay til 5am, so we tend to compromise and leave around 12ish. A lot of the recent weddings we've been to have been marquee weddings, so there's been no time limit, or we've stayed at the venue so have been able to stay longer as residents.

Our venue (abroad) says we have to be out of the reception room by 11pm, although we can stay in the hotel bar until 12.

Our venue has a licence until 1am, we never considered it finishing any earlier than that although our DJ has suggested that he might start to wind up about 12.30 and encourage last orders so that people should be away by 1 - only because our venue has been in trouble with the licencing board a couple of times for stragglers!
H2b and I have no intention of staying until then though ?

Working in a hotel, I've seen many different weddings. End times vary but we very rarely have to apply for a late licence (ie 1am instead of midnight) and most weddings are winding up as I finish a late shift - around 11pm. There's definitely not a right or wrong time for a wedding to finish, I'd say it depends on your guests but as someone else pointed out - if your guests are staying in a hotel they can drink the night away in the bar!

As, I'm sure will our guests. These arrangements suit us and our guests, and yours will suit you and your guests. Nothing wrong with that Smiley smile

I do believe our party did continue! However, although I was keen to continue the day, once I was up in the room after taking cards etc up I decided I too tired to go back downstairs so demanded someone find my groom for me!

Ours will finish at midnight, I've not asked about an extended licence and as it's not a hotel there's no residents bar. We could always go out in town if we wanted to!!

I think by then I'll be ready to go and chill just with my husband.

Wow! Feel very lucky that it only costs us $60 to do this. The last dance will be at midnight, but we wanted somewhere for our guests to wait for taxis rather than having to drink up & clear out IYSWIM.

Our bar closed at 12, disco finished at 12.30. To be honest i was knackerd by 11.30 and would have quite happily gone to bed then. It is an amazing day and i loved it but it is very tiring!

Our last orders are at 11pm. Its is the standard finish time at our venue for a weekday wedding and we can't extend it. TBH it was our only reservation about the venue but everything else was so perfect we decided to go with it anyway. Our close family are staying on site but all our friends (i.e the younger guests) are booked into a local hotel with a 24hr bar and we have laid on a coach for them. So if anybody hasn't finished partying they can always have an afterparty back at the hotel.

The only wobble I still have about it is the evening guests. We have made sure to invite anybody travelling a long distance all day because we can't expect people to travel far for an evening do that only last 3.5 hrs. So all the evening guests are local.

I've been to weddings that finish at 11.30, 12 and 2am. You make the best of the situation and I can't say anyone of them was a better party than the other just because of the finishing time.

I think ours is last orders 11 or 11.30, then close and leave by 12pm. It is actually in the contract that we must ensure guests who aren't sleeping at the venue are gone by midnight.

Ours finishes at 1pm but I have booked the DJ until 12.30 as I think that is long enough. We have a lot staying at the venue so no reason why we can't continue having a nightcap before bed.

I think the DJ stays until around 12ish but as all my guests are staying the night, the bar

will close when most of the guests have gone bed!

Our wedding is finishing at 11pm and guests have to be gone by 11.30pm which was the ONLY thing about the venue that we were a bit disappointed about. However, we're thinking of carrying on the party somewhere else the following night (if we've got enough energy!) because we're getting married on a Friday and we want to make the most of our weekend!!!

We're got a village hall for our reception and all evening functions have to cease by 11.45pm, so I've booked the DJ til 11.30pm. Fine by us as we're not night owls, plus there's no accommodation in the village at the moment so I imagine some people will want to arrange taxis back before prices jump after midnight anyway!
