Wedding Food

We went to a wedding where they had a hog roast, we were all sat at tables and were called up to collect food, the only issue i see is the timing. we found that we were getting food as others were finishing so there was quite a wait either end. I would speak to the caterer to ensure there is enough staff to deliver the food in a timely manner and ask how they do this so you don't have long gaps,. it is way cheaper so i understand your reasoning

I was going to have a casual BBQ without a seating plan but a friend pointed out you do that sort of more casual thing in the evening anyway. And also we sampled our venues food and were really sold. I think it depends where spending that extra 4k will leave you financially. If you think you might be looking back wishing you'd had the 3 courses then go for it. If it might put you in difficulty or significantly delay your other goals then maybe not. I've always enjoyed a hog roast. Yes it's slower but it doesn't matter if there's drink and good company.
