wedding hair - anyone wearing theirs straight?

jenny18/11/11, 17 December, 2010 at 22:20 Posted on Planning 0 8

I'm a long way off sorting out things like hair trials yet, and haven't thought too much about what to do with my hair, but I have noticed that most styles tend to involve curly/wavy hair.

Now, my hair is naturally wavy (okay, more frizzy tbh), and on a day to day basis I tend to do little with it in terms of styling as it would take ages to do so because my hair is so thick, and as I'm perpetually running late in the mornings I tend not to bother. When I have a special occassion though (birthdays, big nights out etc) I normally have it straight. As I'm rubbish at straightening my own hair, this usually means having my hair cut that day so it will be straightened at the salon, or asking one of my friends to do it before we go out.

Whilst my hair is wavy naturally, any time I have had it styled curly at a salon it looks awful - like a weird Shirley Temple-Edward Scissorhands hybrid. I've never tried to syle it curly or wavy myself, and wouldn't know where to start, so I was wondering if maybe I should have my hair straight for the wedding day as that's how I normally have it for special occassions.

I guess I'm just not sure if it will be very "bridal", and was wondering if anyone had/is planning to have their her straight, or has any pics of possible styles? With the wavy styles I think some of the half-up, half down ones look really nice, I'm just not sure what these would look like with straight hair. Similarly, does anyone has any tips for styling hair curly/wavy without it looking really overdone, so it looks more natural? Just want to try to get an idea for both options to try to help make a decision.

Fraid I'm having mine curly, but I think Shoegal01 wore hers straight and it looked lovely. If you look in the awards threads I'm pretty sure she posted some pics in the dress thread ?

    Me!!!

I had nightmare trials. Everything I thought I wanted I decided I hated on me. I was worried about wearing it down and straight as it seemed kinda boring and I was wearing a tiara and veil so thought it would look weird with it down with a tiara plonked on it!

I definitly didn't want it half up half down but came up with something which was kinda half half-up - just a section of hair taken back but still leaving the majority of it and the bit round my face down. I just thought it took the heaviness off my hair (sweeping fringe and side parting so naturally a little off balance).

I had a hair trial a week before the wedding and it still wasn't what I wanted. So there I was on the morning of my wedding in the chair thinking "what the hell will me hair look like!" In the end, I loved it!!!

I have naturally curly hair (mine is also very frizzy) - I think you should embrace your curly hair and at least have a go at doing it curly!

All I do when I wash my hair is (whilst its still wet) put moose on it all over then use a diffuser to dry my hair. Do you have the diffuser attachment to your hair dryer? If you do, put your head upside down and dry your hair with the diffuser on and use it in swirling motions (this is so hard to explain!) and then when the underneath is dry-ish do the top by plonking sections of your hair onto the diffuser bit and holding it up towards the top of your head for a few seconds, then move onto the next bit. I dont completely dry my hair just so its near-enough dry. Then I'll dab a bit more moose on the ends so they dont go frizzy and then finish off with hairspray.

If you dont have a diffuser just blast your hair whilst your head is upside down and then leave it to dry naturally and it should go curly. You might have to ruffle your hair every so often so your roots dont go flat but it should work.

For the wedding, I'm straightening mine but having it in an 'up do' but having a few curly bits down but I'll curl those with curling tongs or GHD's. You could try doing that if you arent confident with your natural curls?

    Thanks girls.

GeordieBarbie, your hair looked lovely on your wedding day! Nice to see that wearing your hair straight and down can really look great as a wedding day style.

MrsB_2B - I have a diffuser, but have never used it as I wasn't sure what to do with it! Will give it a go though, thanks for the advice. Have you got any pics of the style you're having for the wedding? It sounds like a good compromise between straight and curly, may have to experiment a bit to see what works best.

Suzie, I love the half-up, half-down styles, but all the pics I've seen in amgazines etc were with curly hair - have you got a pic of what you're having?
