Wedding Hair Prices !!!!

FlickStar, 17 August, 2012 at 11:53 Posted on Planning 0 15

OMG !!!

This is ridiculous ... I have contacted over 10 hairdressers for an updo for a wedding, average price of around £35 ... however, when I tell them I am the bride, the price shoots up to twice that, sometimes triple !! I am fuming ... they can give me no valid reason for the hike in price even though it's the same up-do I orignally requested a price for .. there is no cut, or colour involved, jus a nice simple loose up do ...

Does anyone have any recommended hairdressers in Wrexham area at all?

Or has anyone told the hairdresser it was for an event (and not said that they were the actual bride?!) as a friend of mine (bride) is getting her's done and just saying she is going to a christening ...

I really hate how people hike their prices up at the sound of the word 'wedding'

Could you tell them you are just a bridesmaid?

That is ridiculous! Especially as they can't even give you a valid reason. I'm sure lots of suppliers hear 'wedding' and double the price! If you are comfortable with lying, just say it is a family party! I've hired a woman who will come to my house and do my hair and make-up, and all the prices I found for this were very high, but the woman is really good, so I can't complain.

    Try this lady

She's my hair dresser and she's fab. You may be a little far to travel but you can discuss this with her. Not sure where you are!?!?!

    Very reasonable.

I have to say I am very tempted to 'fib' and just say I am going to a wedding (not particularly comfortable with fibbing) but the way I see it is they don't feel bad for ripping me off do they ?! I just wondered what other people were doing for hair etc and if this was pretty standard ...

Do you not know anyone who can do hair? I'm having my mum do mine for me, as we want to cut back on price.

I can put you in touch with my hairdresser if you'd like? She's based in Headmasters in Chester but as she is self employed so can travel. I think zhe charges £40 for an up do but she may ask for a bit extra for petrol and not sure if she charges for a trial...

Anyway, she's very ggod, let me know if you are interested.

    I flashed my trial here:-

Personally I wouldn't feel bad about fibbing at all, it's not like because it is wedding hair, they are going to get someone special in to do it who charges them more, people hear wedding and see a way to make some extra money, as they know there is nothing you can do about it! The only thing you may have trouble with is if your having a veil, when my sister had her wedding she had to take hers with her to make sure it would stay in securely with the hair style she picked.

I paid £200 for hair and makeup inc trial but my lady came to my venue - I would expect to pay more for this.

If I was going to a salon and wanted the exact same style that costs £35 normally, I would be very disgruntled at paying three times as much. I might allow a bit of leeway (maybe up to £50) as they might possibly use more product, more grips etc as it will need to look perfect all day, but I wouldn't want to pay much more than that.

Ok, so I'm no hairdresser but most of the weddings I've been to I've covered prep and the hair is usually done in two stages. i.e. - Hair first, then the makeup, then the hair is tidied up last minute before the bride walks out the door, tiara, veil, etc etc.

So a 1 hour thing can turn into 3 hours. They may not be doing anything inbetween but they can't do anything else. I'm sure someone with more knowledge than me can chime in but this 'wedding premium' doesn't exist in the mainstream. Or at least, I've not seen an example of it.

I've seen makeup ladies who were there to do two faces being asked to touch up the makeup on the bridesmaids too, all for free of course. Same with hair. Once bitten and all that stuff.

My hairdresser will be the same hairdresser I have been going to since I was 18 and my sister since she was about 16 (and she is older than me...so essentially have been using her for over 10 years in the family).

I have had her do my hair in an 'up-do' - although really curled and half up half down with like hair spirals (back in they day when they were cool ;p) so essentially a detailed hair do for around £30 for my 21st birthday.. sister then used her for her bridal hair and me and other bridesmaid for around £30ish for each of us - no more money for bride.

She has confirmed to me she will do mine and bridesmaids' hair for my wedding with another hairdresser, and will come to our house morning of to do it all etc, for approx £35-£40 max per person (she said it would be that little bit more as they will be travelling and obviously means they will have that extra time there and back from the salon (it is a Saturday when they would usually be working) and also as it is in June next year and their prices go up slightly each year.. there is no extra charge for being bridal/bridesmaid/party hair as she has said it is not as if she is going to try harder than usual to make the hair style perfect - should always try that hard etc!

So there are decent hairdressers that won't charge the earth!!

I'm in Wrexham and have a link for someone down the arcade by Marrubi's cafe. She is £50 but that includes a trial and consultation. It is Hair by Phillipa ****. Your right though, any other member of the bridal party is cheaper

Hi FlickStar, I'm not sure if you're after our style of 'dos but we offer just hair from £59 for our mobile services, but our nearest stylist is Manchester so travel would be £45, guess this makes it just as expensive as local people. Sorry, wish we could help more.

We've had brides come into our salon and if they have one of our normal up-do's we'll charge the normal rates, at the end of the day they should base their prices on time spent and unless they can explain to you how prepping your hair to last longer or look better is going to take more time, there's no justification. I feel your frustration! Hope you get it sorted.

As a professional hairdresser, the majority of wedding hair is on a Saturday, which is our busiest day,so therefore it is our time that is being paid for and reflects the loss of money we would earn from multiple clientele in the salon, I think we should charge a minimum call out fee like plumbers and other professionals do,you want your hair to look fabulous on your special day and it is a specialised skill so don't insult the stylist by lying and demeaning their expertise and experience. How much would you pay for your wedding dress,? if you're hair was cheap it would make your dress look cheap,

It all depends on which Hair Salon or hairdresser you choose. David Rozman Hair Salon, one of the best hair salons in Manchester, can be the best choice for you for your wedding hairstyle. They are not even affordable but also give you a celebrity look at the time of your wedding.

The bride has longer including touch ups, hair stylist can also be waiting around 1.5 hours to put your veil in when they have completed the work! That’s also like saying a buffet your paying for at your venue is double the price than your average buffet for a party. It’s the service you get from it! The training it takes, the amount of admin/ messages back and forth with a bride is very time consuming to your average Occassion hair/makeup booking. Very insulting when I see this.

Weddings are expensive and that’s across all wedding suppliers who give your day the very best.

I’m a hairdresser and also a 2025 bride. I see both sides but what people don’t realise is doing bridal hair is very stressful. People spend £100-£1k for a cake but think it’s strange hairdressers charge more. Flowers are thousands and dresses too. All aspects of weddings are pricey. I have done wedding hair for years but not often as they are stressful. Normally I am asked to go very early and travel far away from home. You’re paying for a skill that takes years to learn and costs money to keep up to date. The same as a dress maker and cake maker.
