    Hello All!!!

Looks like we aren't the first then....

We are flying to Lapland in Feb 2016 - it was a 5 days activity deal to see Northern Lights, go on Husky Safari etc and was just an exciting holiday...until we decided to try and get hitched there!

We've got a day free of activities (!), have been engaged for 8 years (and constantly mithered about when are we going to do it) so thought that if we can, why not!

So basically we have already got flights and a hotel in Rovaniemi....and really don't know where to start with the rest!

It'll all be independent booking I am guessing as I can't imagine operators will touch us without flights and accom.

Bit worried about the paperwork that everyone seems to be tearing their hair out over...I thought it was just a form that was sent to the UK...oh cripes...what have we decided to get signed up to!!!

Anyway, just thought I would pop my head on here although the thread is mainly about Levi (I saw pics of Levi after we decided to marry and thought it amazing)....alas, due to time restrictions, we will have to stay near Rovaniemi to do the deed.

Never stepped foot there before and don't know what to expect or what suitable venues there are....I'm trying not to even think about how to organise/book transport, hair/makeup, flowers, photography etc

    What have we done!!

    Simone x

Very similar to us. We booked the holiday to Levi then decided afterwards to marry while there after ten years of yes we will do it one day. Just us and two witnesses.

I searched tripadvisor and google for weddings Levi, and found a venue, booked it direct by email no problems. I found the local tourist information office brill so they can probably point you in the right direction for anything you want.

paperwork isn't bad once you get your head round it it's just date orientated. Your venue will send it to you and explain when it has to be done at the registry office here, notorised and returned to them.

we marry 6 January in the ice chapel at Luvattumaa in Levi.

Where you are is I think a two hour drive from Levi so if you struggle for a venue you like where you are that's an option. I think only Saturday weddings happen in the day all the other days are 4.30 onwards. So in the dark Smiley smile

flowers I'm taking a silk bouquet with me as they die within 24 hours due to the cold.

There are plenty of us to ask questions and Lapland2015 has been to Levi before.

Hello and congratulations! Clearly lapland is the place to get married ? I have never been to rovaniemi so can't comment directly for there but I stayed in yllasniesta last time we visited and we are in levi this time. You have to be a resident for 24 hours so you can't get married the day you land and the paperwork is straight forward just date orientated like Jayne said. Have you looked for the trip advisor board for lapland as lots of people that have been/live there are on it so van probably help you more specifically with venues. I did find this but not sure if they still do weddings as my iPad won't load the page fully http://www.snowland.fi/en/Wedding_

Thanks for your message Jayne and congrats on your forthcoming nuptials!!!

I will certainly take your advice and contact the local tourist information office......top tip - I didn't think about doing that!!

We have now booked the venue but I am still struggling to get my head around the paperwork...been getting conflicting info :-(

Only just sent out invites and starting to get into the wedding fever!

Sorry everyone....so its booked (hurrah) and I am quickly realising what everyone means about the paperwork (not so hurrah)

I have had conflicting info and am now panicking about getting it wrong. Clarification would be most appreciated please on:

    Do we either

    a) complete the Lappish request for no impediment, get it notaried at a solicitor, apostilled and sent back with the request being less than 3 months before the ceremony but back with the Lappish Registry office no later than one month before the ceremony

    b) give notice to marry at our local registry office and have them complete a certificate of no impediment which gets notaried and apostilled

I'm not sure if we even have to give notice at a UK Registry Office to marry abroad...I'm guessing we do so it is registered over here but not sure.

If we send back one completed by the UK Registry Office then does it need to be notaried?

I'm so sorry but different departments are telling me different things and I'm feeling against the clock now

    Please help! xx

The paperwork does seem a nightmare. Mainly because everything is worded in such jargon. I'm in the middle of it and it's actually very straight forward. What date is your wedding and we can work it all out for you step by step.

    Cost wise.

35.00 each to give notice at local registry office so they can issue your no certificate of impediment.

60.00 each to a notary to notorised copies of your passport (shop around as varies)

125.00 for the home office to stamp all documents needed

If your wedding is February it must be about time to start. A wedding date means we can give you exact dates and step by step instructions. What venue did you chose?

The paperwork sounds scary but it isn't at all. My planner is talking me through it so myself and Jayne are both working through it alongside each other. I believe she has sent you the info but the one thing I would do is ask your venue the address they need on the certificate of no impediment as were in levi and ours is levi Sirkka, no postcode etc needed so just check what it is for rovaniemi. How are your plans come along?

I haven't emailed it yet Becky if you want to post it here. My phone kept losing it all. I'm dying to know what your wedding plans are too for Feb! Is that 4 of us now. Not sure. Some are quieter than others. Not one of them lol.

Your certificate of no impedement has to be issued a maximum of 12 weeks before the wedding. I believe they take 28 days from going in the registry office to them issuing the certificate so if you get married 20th few you should be looking at having it issued 28th November or later. So I would book the appointment early or mid November. You need passports certified by a solicitor (not an assistant) and when you have both you send them off to Milton keynes for apostle stamps. They then need to be sent off to Finland, the rest of the paperwork my planner has filled in for us so Jayne would be able to guide you on those as she is doing hers as we speak

I work in a register office, put a phone call in tomorrow as some offices do book up weeks/months in advance it really depends on where you live to how busy they are x

Thank you Jayne, Becky and Jenny all for your responses.

4 of us eh...Lapland is becoming popular!!

Jayne - I'll email you separately but thank you both to you and Becky for your help so far.

I think the reason I'm so confused is because Rovaniemi have told me that the ‘paperwork’ has to be back with them no later than one month before the wedding and that the request for examination of the impediment to marriage starts the whole process in Finland....as that was the case I thought I had to send them the request for examination of the impediment and they would then start the investigation and get the certificate sorted.

Did you need to complete the request for examination?

I have attached the form that they sent me!! This is the request.

In terms of the planning, I have got my dress and gloves, J has got his suit and that’s about it! Oh and I bought some chinese sky lanterns so that we can write on them and set them up in the air in memory of loved ones we have lost.....thought they would look amazing in the dark sky

We only sent out wedding invites (well it was a link to our wedding website) on Sunday so don’t even have final numbers for booking our meal….although the Ice Chapel know that we want to have it in the Kota

We’ve got an appointment at Tower Bridge tonight with a view to hiring the walkway for our reception when we get back on British soil!

    How about your plans?!!!

So yes Becky then me then you and jenny next year impatiently waiting to book. I'm sure there are others too on the main forum who are not quite as chatty as us.

I think we are about sorted. Dress, fur jacket, gloves needed still. Oh has his suit and shirt and thermal top for under shirt, gloves. I have my jewellry, probably too much and won't wear all of it.

i have a reindeer sleigh to go but not splurging on it for coming back. I have a photographer for an hour for the wedding. I will sort a restaurant out when I get there as there are only four of us.

we are in the glass igloos the night before the wedding. I've made all hair, eyelash and nail appointments.

paperwork is under way. We collect our certificate of no impediment next week and already had passports notorised so it can all go off to Milton Keynes that day.

oh and ordering flowers today I think.

    i think we are winning.

my hair is growing back faster now so I should have proper hair for the wedding (chemo) but why do I think I've forgotten something lol.

Spoke to venue this morning. No snow yet but it was -8 there this morning she says.

I've emailed you a pic of gloves I found that are really cute and appropriate for the ring giving (they are fingerless)

You really have got everything underway Jayne!!! I've barely scratched the surface and need to get a shift on.

The igloos will be amazing!!!! I was tempted with them for the night before but the Ice Chapel is 25km outside of Rovaniemi so would be tricky for makeup lady to get to....plus I have gone all traditional and have decided that I don't want to see James before the altar!

So you'll have to tell me about the igloos when you get back!!!

I'm sure you'll look stunning :-) Have you thought about tiara? That was pretty much the only thing you didn't mention...oh and footwear!

James has got a drone and is determined to take it for some aerial shots....personally I think that will end up in tears (or the lake) but I'll let him get on with it!!!

I'm just wearing my thermal long johns and snowboots. I probably need a garter as that should make an interesting picture lol.

No make up artist or hair dresser. I don't have a lot of hair as you can see on the pic I sent you. I did buy a pearl and crystal small tiara but it just disappeared into my curls. Might work better once hair is a bit longer and my ghd have worked their magic on the chemo curls.

im taking all the jewellry and tiara and will decide on the day what's getting worn and what isn't. I got paul some nice reindeer cufflinks.

paperwork is the main thing. Everything else will just fall into place. Double and triple check dates and stay on top of it being ready for next part. I keep saying if I mess it up we will swop to a blessing type and marry before we go. No one will know lol.

Noticing the post about dresses and hand luggage does yours fit. Mine fit easily and left room for the fur jacket too. It's already been to Spain and back to show my friend.
