Wedding in Tewin Bury Farm, Priory Barn and Knebworth house

melissa85, 13 January, 2009 at 20:36 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hi

Currently im tearing my hair out trying to book my venue, ive looked at tewin bury and loved the tythe barn however the fact that they run 4 weddings at the same time concerns me a bit and the areas for photos seem limited if they are full with all 4 weddings, anybody got any feedback.

Also i have looked at the priory barn in hitchin and knebworth houise which are both lovely and if anyone has any feedback on those that would be fab!

Please help!

I have photographed weddings at all of these venues many many times. Indeed, I was one of the first to do a wedding at Tewinbury.

IMHO, I really really like the Priory with Knebworth a close second. All three have great customer relations although if I were judging, I would put the Priory marginally ahead. Knebworth is great, although you have to share the grounds with the general public, and as you mentioned, Tewinbury has sometimes 4 weddings on the go and they segregate the grounds.

Basically, your choices are very very good. Much will depend on how many guests you have as to which may be best for you. Food is excellent at all venues.....any other questions please do ask me..

    Hi,

I went to view Tewin Bury last Saturday and liked it more than i thought i would, however, the concern with my parents was the amount of seperate areas our guests could go. We know that at any venue you're going to have your reception area and then perhaps a bar area and that it's hard enough at weddings to get guests to mingle but at Tewin Bury they had the barn, then the cloakroom area where they put the buffet, then the big bar area, then the patio area. Our concern was that you'd end up with one family in one room, the other family in the other and all our friends outside!

It was a lovely venue though but perhaps more suited to small weddings or a large party in the marquee.

Unfortunately i can't give feedback on the other two as they're not on my list but good luck with the venue search and keep us updated on how you get on! xx

    Oh...and welcome to the forum.......

Have you also considered Bush Hall and the Node??

Or if the budget allows St Michaels Manor in St Albans....or Sopwell House(again a shared venue)

    Hi

I have been to all those venues too doing make up and I must agree with Peter that you have good choices. Not sure on the size of your wedding, but Coltsfoot is also gorgeous, its a barn and absolutely fantastic food. But think it is for small weddings... but a gorgeous barn too. Lovely acommodation too.

    Peter,

I'm going to view Sopwell House in a couple of weeks but someone told me that you can have 3 weddings going on at once and you all have to share the same bar! Is that correct?? I would prefer a venue which i could have exclusively but am prepared to compromise on this as there are other things that are more important to me. I really draw the line at sharing the bar with other weddings though!

Indeed, Sopwell has one general bar and often several weddings at the same time. The considered prime location is the red bridge over the pond. You are given a time slot for this. if for any reason your wedding runs late, you may miss out on this to another wedding.

Sopwell is not a bad venue, although you do have to be prepared to share the general location with others.....I would also avoid the hairdressers on site...many misgivings about that(albeit a couple of years ago)

Indeed, this is a really nice and smallish private venue....they used to be adverse to doing weddings although have developed a taste for them. My last wedding there was featured in Brides Magazine.

    Hi Melissa

I photographed a wedding at Tewin Bury last summer I think there were 2 other weddings going on at the time but apart from a few people crossing paths in the car park you really don't notice, the staff do a fab job of keeping everything seperate. The couple had the ceremony in the Stable and then the use of the house and front lawn for drinks where we did the formal shots, couple shots and the staff also opened up the top part of the house so I could do a big group shot. They then went back to the Stable for the meal. I'm not sure what areas you are thinking to book but it didn't affect the day for this couple.

If you would like to see some images please PM me!

    Good luck

    Catherine

Thankyou all for your help, although to be honest im finding this the hardest descision to make! which im hoping is normal. Coltsfoot looks nice so i have requested a brochure from them, and the more i see the barn type venues the more i like them. Just feel underpressure to book soon as everywhere is quickly booking up. If anyone has any more info that may help or any experience with these venues i would greatly recieve it.

    Thanks guys

Ok, well one of my partners main priorities is nice surroundings for photographs, but i feel that priory barn is very open and not much in view of places to have photos would you agree?

Photographically, there is more variety at The Old Priory and you have full access to all areas, whereas Tewinbury may well have some areas "off limits".

Knebworth Barns as a similar venue does also have some great locations.
