Wedding Insurance

Pinkcoffee22, 5 November, 2020 at 14:22 Posted on Planning 0 3
Hi, lovely ladies!

I’ve had a realisation about wedding insurance and I’m a bit concerned.
I’ve already started booking things since getting engaged a couple of weeks ago. We’ve spent around £4,000 already, but we don’t have insurance yet. I know it’s naive, but I didn’t realise I had to get it before paying out... oops.
So I now have the dilemma of finding somewhere that will cover deposits already made AND a good insurer considering the Covid situation.
Can anyone help or offer any recommendations or advice?
Hayley xx

Hi. There has been discussions about this before. Most insurers currently dont offer wedding insurances due to covid. The ones that do wont cover covid related cancellations/ costs. That's not saying insurances is not worth having as other things can go wrong too so maybe still look into it if your wedding is within the next year. But you unlikely will find one that includes any covid cover at this point.
Paying larger bills with credit card can give you some security in case a supplier goes bust etc. If your wedding is not for a while it might be worth holding off on further bookings and getting insurance in a couple of months once (hopefully) things improve and more policies are available? Some insurances used to cover deposits already paid with a 30 day wean off period(that's what I got 1 year ago after booking my reception venue and then too thinking about insurance after?), but i dont think any if those policies are available atm. Sorry to not be able to help.

Just to add - i'm in the same boat, have now paid around £4k of deposits etc., without insurance (and sadly using BACS as no supplier we've found takes credit cards!!) However from all that i've looked up about wedding insurance, I was under the assumption that it covered everything you would have already paid, much like travel insurance (e.g. you only buy travel insurance after you book your holiday!)

There's only one policy we've found at the moment and we weren't impressed by it at all, so we're holding off until January when our next round of payments will be due and take another look then.

Fairly sure that Covermywedding (which was our only option, and still excludes Covid) will cover things you have already paid deposits for.
