Wedding invitation

Sinéad, 13 June, 2022 at 12:23 Posted on Etiquette and Advice 0 14
Hi everyone,

Just wondering when we should be sending out our wedding invitations?
We are getting married on the 27th of October this year.I think it's a bit soon to start sending them out now but our wedding is the Thursday of a long weekend and I'm concerned our guests might be planning others things. I always thought it was six to eight week before the wedding that the invites go out. What do ye think?
Thanks

    Hi! Congratulations 😊

If you haven’t already, you could send save the dates out now & then formal invitations 6-8 weeks before? That way people will know to pencil you in?

I would be sending then ow. we sent ours 4 months ahead with an RSVP date of 2 months before. This allowed us to ensure we had numbers for caterers, but also move people to our day list in a timely manner if we had gaps open up. We still ended up chasing people for a few weeks after the date so is best to allow yourself time

    Hi Charlotte,

Thanks. I think I will start letting people know now . Most of the guests have us penciled in already I think . It's just some family members that we wouldn't be in regular contact with that I need to let know . Thanks again x

    Hi Shannon

Congratulations to you too 🙂.I was thinking of sending save the dates but I'm not sure is it just a extra expense 🙈 most of our guest already know the date it just the extended family we need to start telling. I'm so excited to send out the invites but worried if I send them too soon people will put them away and forgot. I think I'm over thinking it 🙈

I have invitations stuck to my fridge for weddings next year so I wouldnt worry about people putting them away and forgetting, but I think especially with it being the thursday of a long weekend it's best to get them out sooner rather than later x

I would send them out soon. I already have a wedding invite for a wedding thats on 29th October this year and one for April next year. I'm getting married on a Thursday in June next year and plan to send mine in September. I think with weekday weddings it's good to give people as much notice as possible to book time off work Smiley smile

100% send them out now - I'd probably have said this regardless of the day of the week, but definitely because it's a Thursday rather than a weekend! You don't want guests not having booked the time off work and then running out of holiday days which people often do use up through the summer (if it's not local either they'll also need to factor in hotel costs which for some might mean it's your wedding vs that long weekend they've been debating).

Exciting times!! It'll be here before you know it!

    Hey Chloe,

Thanks for your reply. I think you ladies are right. I have most of the addresses so I'll collect the final few and get the sent out asap. The weeks are flying by and we have a lot coming in July with our holidays and birthday celebrations then August is the hen month . All the other things are filling the days up fast . I can't wait we are so excited and our children can't wait 🙂

I would send them now. We’re getting married in October as well, didn’t send save the dates in the end but sent our invites out in April (6 months before) with a RSVP deadline of just over 2 months before wedding so I can get organised with seating plan etc.

    I’d send them now.
My wedding is early Oct and we need to confirm numbers with the venue and caterer by mid- august (6 weeks out). People will always miss deadlines so give yourself time to chase people.
