Wedding knickers!

AmyKate, 22 April, 2021 at 13:41 Posted on Planning 1 16

Hi Everyone,

I am unsure about what underwear to wear on the day!

My dress has padding in it and has a very low back so I wont need a bra however I am unsure about knickers!

Obviously I need to be careful about VPL but i also want them to be pretty but comfy.

My concern is that I wont be able to check if they will be visible until very close to the wedding when i have collected my dress.

Any ideas welcome x

Ha, I've been having the same thoughts recently. I am a curvy girl so had planned on the full shebang with supportive sucking-in underwear and even wore something along those lines when choosing my dress last weekend. The dress that I chose is also very structured and supportive and the owner of the shop explained how I shouldn't wear a bra as it changes the shape and placing of my breasts, so I will be going braless on the day.

I did come home and think how I still needed to find some big supportive knickers (not actually fussed about them looking nice/sexy or anything) but have actually now been thinking how if they sit up too high then they will be a right faff to pull up and down beneath my dress whenever I need the loo on the day. I've even considered going commando to avoid VPL and least faff Smiley xd but that doesn't seem very bridal! I might go for some frenchies - they'll make me feel fancy and shouldn't have too much of a VPL, though I guess it depends how fitted your dress is around the bum?

Its a tough one isn't it - never thought it would be something to think about!

Yes i think most dresses are shaped and supported in the bust area which is so good as i agree, a bra would be too much and probably give us girls a funny shape.

You are braver than me for even thinking of going commando hahah! Yes french knickers are a good option actually as they have coverage but also can be pretty and no big seams!

My dress is pretty tight around my bum however has quite a lot of detail so it may cover any lines but i'm just not sure. I have a fitting in May so i might wear a pair of knickers that have visible lines to see how much they show and then anything less that i find will be better

I think now the shops are open i am going to go on a pants hunt! ahah

This has been SO helpful to think about the right kind of underwear before dress fittings! A lot of my friends have gone for nude thongs but I know I won't be comfortable in a thong all day! Think french are a good shout, or M&S do great seamless nude shorts too if you want comfort x

I totally agree about a thong - no one wants to be uncomfortable on their wedding day, especially if its about your knickers!

My only concern is them riding up too much...i don't want to be getting wedgie during the day! HAHAH

I think M&S is a great shout as they also have a large range so i recon they will have options that i haven't thought about.

I've been having the same thoughts, I have my dress fitting on Saturday so will see how i look, i ordered some suck it all in knickers but to be honest i thought they'd be a waste of time, going to the loo will be difficult enough without having to struggle with super tight knickers, so i think frenchies might be the way forward

Yes I don’t think the suck in pants will be comfy - I feel they will get hot & like you said will be hard work going to the toilet!
I hope your fitting goes well Smiley smile

I ordered three different nude pairs from M&S so I could pick the best option - I actually did go with the 'control' ones - they were surprisingly comfortable and not hard to get in & out of! I've worn all 3 pairs since, so they haven't been wasted.

M&S are really good for returns, so if you don't want to go out shopping, you can always order online.

That’s really useful, thank you! I think it’s worth buying a few pairs as at least I can have options in case I change my mind!

The owner at the wedding dress shop I got mine from (which is a fit and flare so it is sculpted around the bum!) told me: M&S full briefs, No VPL, microfiber, in nude. I had a fitting today wearing what I would call the Bridget Jones pants and they were very comfy and no VPL! Xx

Primarni (Primark) white thong knickers all the way!! The ones with the thicker waist band that don't push into your hips but rather sit on top. They are so so comfy! Do you know the ones I mean?

That's them! You know they're comfy right? Yeah get a pair in white and then you could always change into a nice underwear set in the evening.. That's my plan haha!

Check out wolf and whistle on ASOS, I got a spanx style thong with a tummy bit - it’s not ugly and does the job!
