Wedding make up and hair

So new to all this, when would be the best time to have a trail for hair and makeup? Like how close to the wedding day?

I am having mine 6 weeks before. Wouldn't go to early as your length may change Ask your MUA what she recommends as she does this all the time so will know when the latest is you can leave it

I would make it long enough to change your artist 🙈 I had mine the other day and hated it! So have cancelled that artist (which was horrid too) but now am having to find someone else or do it ourselves which actually I might be alright with due to how much money I'd save. Sorry to be negative but I did not enjoy the experience like I thought I would, I'm sure however my experience is less common. I do hope yours go better!

I timed mine with a dress fitting - (trial in the morning and fitting in the afternoon) so I could go to the fitting with it done and see what it was going to look like on the day. I actually found this really helpful as I could take a few pictures and then emailed my hair and make up artist afterwards with a few tweaks to do on the day, having seen how it all comes together.

I've just spoken with a H&MUA, and actually I'm thinking I might do the trial around a year in advance! Sounds mad I know, but my wedding is in the summer and outside, so it feels sensible to test out the hair and make up when the elements are likely to be similar - hot, possibly sticky, etc. - whereas having it a few of months in advance the weather could well be a lot colder and therefore isn't a true trial.

That being said, I've had a very consistent hairstyle for a lot of years and am quite certain on the vibe I want for my day (have been for a long time, since pre-engagement!), but if you're someone that's likely to change your hair in a big way maybe go for closer to your date. Also, depends whether the elements are a factor for you, if your wedding's inside then you don't have any of the worries I do!

As others have said, leave yourself time to find an alterative just in case the person you've booked turns out to be really incapable of doing what you want - I know it's rubbish to think about but preparing for the worse case scenario does help alleviate stress I find.
