Wedding music for a civil ceremony?

xMissyLoux, 6 January, 2012 at 22:27 Posted on Planning 0 5

Wondering if anybody has any suggestions or would like to share their music for a civil ceremony.

I've been told I need 4 pieces of music/songs (non-religious obviously). One for while the guests enter/wait for my arrival, one for BMs and my arrival, one for signing the register and then a final one for our exit.

Also, is everyone else having the same music for BMs entering and themselves entering and are you going in before or after your BM?

We're having general venue provided background music for when guests are seated, then both the bridesmaids and me are walking down the aisle to 'Dance of the Blessed Spirits' by Glock (a classical piece). To sign the reg and stuff we're having instrimental versions of my fav disney songs- Beauty and the Beast, A Whole New World, Kiss the Girl and Can You Feel the Love Tonight, and then finally we leave to 'At Last' be Etta James- so a bit of a mix!! it suits us though and was the only place OH would allow me to have Disney songs!?

I'm hopefully having a few pieces for when guests are seated- Elgar's Salut D'amour, Flower Duet (BA music!) and rhapsody by Rachmaninov. I'm entering to Music of the night from Phopera. still undecided on Register music but we should be leaving to "My Girl". All performed by string quartet.

I only had the one song for MOH & me to walk in with. The aisle wasnt that long, & I didnt see the point of having 2 songs. I always thought it would sound odd with 1 song being cut short to start the next one. We had a harp playing, but obvioulsy can be played on CD.

    Walked in: Canon in D

Signing: Kissed by a rose- Seal

Walking out: I do, I do, I do- Abba

We choose a 2nd song incase the signing went longer, but didnt need it & cant remember what we chose now.

Some of the most popular pieces of music for the Wedding Ceremony are:

    Pachelbel-Canon in D,
    Bach-Jesu, joy of Man's desiring,
    Bach-Sleeper's awake,
    Wagner-Here comes the bride,
Vivaldi-Guitar concerts in D minor, Largo,
    Bocelli-Con Te Partiro,
Mendelssohn-A midsummer nights dream, incidental music, op 61 wedding march,
    Bach-Arioso,
    Mozart-Wedding march,
    Monteverdi-Toccata,
    Mozart-Romance from string quartet,
    Vivaldi-Winter, largo,
    Bach-Air on the G string

Over the last few years though more and more people have been getting more adventurous with their choices such as
    Alicia Keys-If I ain't got you,
    Norah Jones-Come away with me,
    Nat King Cole-Unforgettable,
    Beatles-All you need is love,
Mary Chapin Carpenter-grow old with me,
Dionne Warwick (or Dusty Springfield)-The look of love,
    Shania Twain-From this moment on,
    Elvis-Can't help falling in love,
    DJ Sammy-Heaven (Candlelight version),
    Celine Dion-Because you loved me,
Ronan keating-When you say nothing at all,
    Celine Dion-Ave Maria

One thing to bear in mind is that if someone from the venue is playing the music, then almost certainly they'll simply play each piece of music from the beginning, and some of them will just stop the music rather than slowly fading it out. None of this might be a problem, unless you may have chosen your pieces of music because you particularly like a section of the track, which won't necessarily be at the beginning of the track. So if for example you take 25 seconds to walk into the room, but the part of the track that you like isn't until 1.40 into the track, then you could be disappointed. So it's for this reason that some people will book a DJ experienced in the Ceremony music who will meet with you beforehand to know precisely where you want each piece of music to start and to finish, and he'll also work out the timings with you so that he has a good idea of how long it will take you to walk into the room. Having a string quartet, harpist etc will also be able to play the precise part of the music you prefer.

Before the bride walks into the room, the bridegroom naturally is nervous and is frequently looking round to see whether the bride is about to enter the room. Alternatively, you could arrange to have a specific track (a signal track) played just before you walk into the room, this can save the groom from keep looking around all the time and he can relax (a little). The way that i do this when I'm playing the music for a ceremony is to have coordinated with the event manager or someone from the venue, and for them to give me a visible sign a few minutes before the bride is ready to enter the room, and at that point I can then play this signal track to alert the groom, but with no one else knowing.

    I was scaring Carmen into thinking I was going to drop the following as her entrance track;
