Wedding on a shoe string

Frederique, 30 December, 2020 at 00:46 Posted on Planning 0 5
Hi,

Just got engaged on Christmas day. It's so exciting but so scary to plan a wedding with Covid 19 still around. We're going to have 2 wedding ceremonies, one in the UK and the other in the Caribbean where my parents are from and live. My fiance is originally from Kent where his parents live. So he wanted me to have a church ceremony in the Caribbean too. As we planned to go in 2022, it made sense. However, our budget is quite small for 2 weddings. We want them small but my fiancé has very costly ideas.
Am I right to feel panicky now?

    Congratulations on your engagement!
I’d advise you be clear on what your budget is in total then the parts (dress, venue, food, will you use a registrar for both etc) that are most important to you both - it should fall into place from there.

Things cost more than you think but if you want a ceremony and aren’t part of a church you might be spending nearly £800 btw booking the registrar and giving notice.
    Good luck with planning!

    Congratulations on your engagement!

It's possible to get married very cheaply, especially as so much of what is regarded as 'essential' isn't really necessary. But you do need to work out a budget and stick to it.

Sit down with your fiance as soon as possible and work out what you can afford for each event and what your priorities are, then go from there.

Thank you for your advice. We're planning to have a civil wedding here in the UK, and a blessing in the Caribbean.
I think you're right we need to have a serious talk asap.

Congratulations in your engagement!! Smiley ring Smiley laugh I would definitely recommend having a talk with your fiance and working out what you can afford to put away each month and what the overall budget would then be. That's what me and my fiance have done; we have a standing order set up into a savings account so we're saving as soon as we're paid! From there you can workout your priorities and maybe look at what you can make work for a ceremony in both locations so you're not needing to buy everything twice, e.g. having a dress suitable for the Caribbean climate and then having a detachable overskirt for the English weather (just a random thought) Smiley xd Definitely don't panic, you have got time!

    Thank you for your help.
I will start the standing order and I have thought of using the same dress with different accessories.
