Wedding photo albums- To bother or not?

Yorkshirelass, 11 March, 2021 at 13:38 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hi all,

Doing a bit of research around photographers, bit shocked to see how expensive they are but that's the way these days so I have come round to it now as I know they are providing a service and suppose the equipment and insurance is not cheap. However I am quite shocked to see how much they charge for the albums, about £300-£400! Has anyone else experienced this?

Would anyone consider creating their photo album? Interested to hear your thoughts.....

thanks

Katie

About £100 of that will be to cover their time in building the album / consultations / changes. Then that leaves £200-£300 which is what it could cost the photographer for the album from the manufacturer.

The prices from a photographer sort of have to be high because they have to supply good quality otherwise if they do not and the album starts to fall to bits after a while or the detail and colours are not right then the couple will be going back to them with complaints which need to be sorted causing extra work for the photographer perhaps when they are in the middle of a busy season. And or bad publicity from the couple.

Also to supply albums they have to buy expensive samples which need to be changed as the manufacturer changes what is available. All in all its a costly faff.

I solved it by not supplying albums and provide my couples with full res print ready non watermarked images for them to use any one of the dozens of on online album producers.

Thank you for the reply, I suspected it was something like that. Interesting to hear that you do not provide albums, most of the suppliers I looked at are also providing the non watermarked images too so we will probably create our own album as we are reasonably good at using the online albums such as Snapfish and Photobox.

    thanks

We made our own - got photos printed online and stuck them into a Scrapbook. We were going to get a proper photo album, but then we saw this great Scrapbook with 'And so, the Adventure begins...' on the cover, and we couldn't resist getting it for our wedding.

I think it all comes down to what you want - neither of us have ever been fussed about having something fancy - I've seen too many wedding albums that are kept in a box and never looked at because they are so expensive. Ours cost under £30 in total, so we can leave it lying around, leaf through it as often as we like and know that if it ever gets too battered, we just reprint and redo the album. We also wanted to be able to add other things - I've put some pressed flowers from my bouquet in, and also a few handmade cards etc that we were given. But I have friends who love their 'posh' wedding albums and would die at the thought of having a DIY one!

I agree and I think I will do my own as a photobook on Snapfish etc. My mum said she wasn't bothered about having a fancy album anyway.

Just thought I would see what others had planned.

    thanks
