Wedding prep.

Shay, 19 December, 2022 at 21:03 Posted on Beauty & Wellbeing 0 7
Hi everyone. I was wondering if anybody had any regimes they have started on the run up to their big day? We don’t get married until 2024 but I have started with facials every 3 months. Hair trimmed every 8 weeks. I am starting at the gym again and running as I have let myself go a little and my eating is atrocious. One big thing for me is the camera. The flipped version of myself I am not comfortable with at all so this is something I need to get comfortable with, so not sure how I will get myself comfortable with that but I will sort something.

Don’t do anything that’s not sustainable because you will burn out and get fed up by 2024.

It’s fine to want to lose a bit of weight but if you’re not normally a gym person you can’t suddenly expect yourself to be going 3 times a week as you are just setting yourself up to fail and then feel bad about yourself.
Get yourself a regular skincare routine and try to eat generally more healthily but otherwise don’t stress yourself up too much. All brides are beautiful because they radiate joy 🥰

What a lovely reply Alison. I am a gym goer. I’ve just had a few months off so want to get a routine again. Sometimes 3 times a week, sometimes once a week. Depends on what I can do. It’s more my skin and my hair that I want in good order. I have all the right tools at home but a little facial a few times a year just boosts it a little. ❤️

For hair care, I have switched to using specific hair care products which are vegan, paraben & silicon free etc. & specific to my hair type, and use a deep conditioning treatment every couple of weeks. It’s smoothed out quite a bit of the frizz in my hair, and I generally have dry hair, so it’s now getting a lot more of the moisture it needs. I also now use argon oil on it when it’s wet too, and that’s really helped with hair strength and it’s growing quickly.

For skin care, I became invested in a decent skin care regime before we got engaged, but since then I’ve expanded it a bit. I have quite happy skin, so it’s not taken much. For taking make up off I now use a specific cleanser instead of make up remover (micellar water is okay but it’s not really hydrating, so it kind of isn’t giving your skin any good stuff, I use it more for cleaning my make up brushes now instead), and then I have my day-to-day hydrating cleanser afterwards or as the only one on no make up days, a gentle exfoliator once a week, as well as a daily toner, moisturiser and spf all sorted. I’m not sure about facials, I feel I’ve got a good balanced skin now, so don’t think I want to add any more to it. I’ve looked at serums, but I’m wondering if they’ll make my face oily.
What kind of hair care/skin care things are you interested in trying?

Hi Lisa! It sounds like you have it all in order!

For my skin I have started using products to hydrate and drinking more water. Cera Ve cleanser and hydrating moisturizer is amazing for my skin. So this is my main concern. I do a face mask and steamer every now and then, but I should do it a little more. I get my facials for any blemishes etc. I have always been good with SPF. I always wear it alone or under my foundation. I love serums for a little glow if I am honest. I’m currently looking for a new one. I’ve been using the kiehls day and night one. It is more of an oil though. My hair is the biggest one as I was lazy with trims etc and always wearing it in a bun. I use my olaplex once a week, I use a mask every now and then with a heated cap. I don’t use a lot of heat on my hair, only when needed as it does have a nice little wave I can get away with.
Thank you again for your reply.

I’ve heard really good things about CeraVe stuff tbf! Have you got a more oily based cleanser for taking your make up off? CeraVe I believe is good for that hydration, but I’d look at double cleansing on make up days. Oily first, creamy one second. Toner is really important to balance the ph out after you’ve cleansed as well. I have an Elemis Apricot one, and it’s wonderful!
I’ve seen 50/50 things with steaming, some seem to say it’s great others say it dries the skin out too much, it’s not something I’ve experimented with that much. Do you use any oils in the steaming process out of curiosity?I was so lazy with my hair before the summer. Skin care was something I sorted last year but haircare - similar to you, just put it up into a bun and forgot about it. About a year before when my wedding will be I went to my hairdresser and was like, right let’s get rid of all the unhealthy stuff! We have a year to go, I will just grow it back out (I have naturally curly/frizzy hair that’s dry, so i want to encourage curl and discourage frizz - I only straighten my hair once in a blue moon, it’s so much effort and it doesn’t want to stay straight anyway). So she cut it to between shoulder and chin level, and that’s when I introduced all the good stuff. It’s not been too bad, I picked up the shampoo/conditioner/deep conditioning stuff/argon oil before I went home that day, and stuck myself into a routine immediately. You mentioned being a gym goer, so I just equate it as the hair equivalent of going to the gym every week haha. 6 months later though and my hair is much more soft, shiny, healthy and not as frizzy, and it’s back down to about a third of the way down my shoulder blades (and that’s with 2 trims, although only small ones as it’s healthy hair now), so it should be length wise where I want by the wedding in 6 months 🥳
Happy to chat more, it’s nice to ask someone questions about what they find works etc, good luck with working out what works for you! 🙂

Ypu say your eating is bad. So are you meaning meaning lifestyle change rather than diet? We all know what we need to do. Things which work me is having a refill bottle of water with me at work to keep hydrated. Just not buying sweets and biscuits and cakes when shopping, so temptation is not in the house! I always have breakfast and find it means I don't crave chocolate at 11am. We have also decreased meat and increased veg, so a casserole has loads more veg than it used to. Getting your other golf onside with sensible eating is good too. Good luck x

Hi. Apologies. I was not on my phone over Christmas. Also happy to chat more too, thank you so much. Yes to life style change. We have just done our big shop with more veg in it as well, but we do love meat. We do not have it in every meal. Our running has started again (my partners had never finished) and although it’s only been a few days, it just feels good to feel energized. Also, with my steaming I wash all products off of my face, sometimes but a facemask on made for steaming and once done extract my pores. I then cleanse and then a serum or moisturizer. Was lovely reading your posts. Good luck to you all too.
