The story about the 30 bridesmaids got me thinking, so for a bit of fun here are some more wacky wedding related world records from Guiness Book of records website

Longest Veil

The longest bridal wedding veil is 3,358 metres (11,017 ft 0.5 in) long and was worn by Sandra Mechleb at her wedding to Chady Abi Younis (both Lebanon) in Arnaoon, Lebanon, on 18 October 2009.

Most couples married underwater simultaneously

On 14 February 2001 (Valentine's Day), 34 couples from 22 countries simultaneously exchanged wedding vows 10 metres (32.8 ft) underwater near Kradan Island, Southern Thailand.

Most crystals on a wedding dress

The most crystals on a wedding dress is 45,024 and was achieved by Özden Gelinlik Moda Tasarim Ltd. (Turkey) and presented at the Forum Istanbul Shopping Mall, in Istanbul, Turkey, on 29 January 2011.

Most expensive wedding dress

The world’s most expensive wedding dress was especially created for the Luxury Brands Lifestyle Bridal Show held on 26 February 2006 at The Ritz-Carlton on Rodeo Drive in Marina del Rey, California, USA. A joint effort by Martin Katz Jewellers and Renee Strauss, a bridal couture designer, the $12 million wedding gown is bedecked with 150 carats’ worth of diamonds.

Oldest bridesmaid

Edith Gulliford (UK, b. 12 October 1901 d. 29 April 2008) was bridesmaid at the wedding of Kyra Harwood and James Lucas (both UK) on 31 March 2007 at Commissioner's House, Chatham, UK at the age of 105 years 171 days.

Longest wedding dress train

The longest wedding dress train measured 2488.65 m (8,164 ft 10 in) and was created by Lichel van den Ende (Netherlands). It was presented and measured in Zoetermeer, The Netherlands, on 22 December 2009.

Most expensive slice of wedding cake

A box containing a piece of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor's 1937 wedding cake sold at Sotheby's, New York, USA on 27 February 1998 for $29,900 (£18,163) to Benjamin and Amanda Yin of San Francisco, USA.

Oldest couple to marry (aggregate age)

On 1 February 2002, Francois Frenandez (France, b. 17 April 1906) and Madeleine Francineau (France, b. 15 July 1907) exchanged marriage vows at the rest home Le Foyer du Romarin, Clapiers, France, at the age of 96 years 290 days and 94 years 201 days, respectively. Total aggregate years between them at the time of the wedding ceremony was a record 190 years 126 days.

Most wedding guests

Over 150,000 people witnessed the wedding of V.N. Sudhakaran, foster son of Jayalalitha Jayaram, former Tamil Nadu chief minister and ex-movie star, to N. Sathyalakshmi, grand-daughter of Sivaji Ganesan, a veteran Tamil movie star. The Hindu Vedic wedding rituals were watched on screens around the 50 acre grounds.

Oldest wedding cake

Two pieces of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s wedding cake, preserved since their wedding day on 10 February 1840, went on display at The Drawings Gallery, Windsor Castle, Windsor, UK, for the first time on 27 April 2007. On the opening day of the exhibition, which celebrated royal marriages, the cake was 167 years 2 months 17 days old.
