Wedding Ring Tattoo design - recommendations please

Shamy, 23 September, 2014 at 17:28 Posted on Planning 0 12

My OH can't wear a wedding ring due to his work and the fact that he is left-handed. We want to get him a tattoo of our names/initials and wedding date instead but don't know of any tattoo artists that specialise in writing script or are at least very good at it. Can any of you lovely Hitchers recommend anywhere in London or the South east please?

Could you get an engraved bracelet, dog tag etc instead? I love tattoos but am a bit hesitant when it comes to relationship ones. I know it's really negative as you're newly weds but there's a lot that can happen. Good luck finding an artist though if he gets it done :-)

    Just some practical thoughts

    1) it can effect employment (you maybe employed now but that could change)

    and

    2) finger tattoos rub and fade example:

if you are set on it some cool ideas are:

white ink (depends on your skin)

    uv ink

or if your dead set on normal ink then I would stick to the top side of the finger

As a heavily tattooed person, I say if you're absolutely sure, go for it. Yes you could split up - but tattoos are a record of what's happening in your life now. In my avatar you see my tattoo of mine and my H2B's initials - I had that done when we'd been dating for 6 weeks. I was well aware our relationship might not last, but I wanted to capture the feelings I had there and then. Even if we were to split up now, I wouldn't regret the tattoo. My art documents my journey through life, and that's what I think tattoos should be.

It is also true that hand tattoos can affect your employment opportunities. I would love to go onto my hands but haven't cos I worry about work - and I work in the arts where they aren't a problem. But you never know for the future. With regard to the ink spreading, that does happen but I wouldn't let that stop me - but you might be concerned about it.

The other thing is that some tattooists won't tattoo your hand if they don't know you, so make sure you make email ontact and arrange it in good time. If you don't know anyone in the area with tattoos you like, I would suggest getting on Instagram and finding some tattooists whose work looks good. Artists all tend to follow and repost each other so it shouldn't take long to find someone that way.

Thanks all. The decision has been made for quite some time and OH has no need to worry about how it will affect his work given his industry. I'll have a look on Instagram.

This is quite sweet, I like these Smiley smile SW, I like the couples tattoos, but some of them look funny on their own, which is most of the time!

I was thinking of having a UV tattoo, but a friend of mine who is really into his tattoos warned me that the ink contains more carcinogens than normal tattoo ink, and complaints regarding reactions to UV ink has led to the American FDA doing research into whether the pigments are safe. Given that the FDA doesn't regulate tattoo ink, the fact that they felt it necessary to look into the ink has put me off until it's been around a while longer and more is known about it.
