Wedding ring with ER

Lynseys Designs, 16 April, 2009 at 19:59 Posted on Planning 0 26

I picked my ring up 2 weeks ago and forgot to take pics as it didn't really excite me that much!

I initially wanted a ring with diamonds but it took away the attention from my solitaire so after trailing around the whole of Glasgow I found a plain band that was perfect and matches the band on my er 100%. I never thought finding a plain band would be so difficult.

Some pics:

I just love my engagement ring from the side but it really needs cleaned so it's going into the jewellers soon and then I'm not wearing it until the day so they are both as clean and shiny as each other.

I am spooked! I commented on a thread the other day that I felt diamonds in wedding ring took away from my engagement ring, and you posted afterwards to say you felt the same. And now it transpires that your Engagement Ring is virtually identical to mine!! Where is yours from?!

Mine is slightly different in that my band is round rather than flat - so have got a rounded wedding ring too to match.

Looking closely, mine doesn't have the supporting bits to the side of the 'U' either and my band goes into the bottom of the 'U' rather than the 'U' being set on top of the band. My U is slightly wider too, with the dises more parallel.

They look fab together, simple but elegant! I have a solitaire engagement ring too, and i'm planning on getting a plain band like you because i love my Engagement ring so much, and i don't want to take anything away from it in any way!

I remember that thread because I was glad someone else was going with a plain band. Don't you just love how the bottom of the diamond can be seen?

I now need a pic of your er side on! Go get your camera!

This is the first good picture I've taken of my engagement ring actually because all the pictures previously were too crap but I've now got a new camera so woo hoo I finally have pictures to show everyone!

Milna they are lovely rings and from the top it looks identical. I now understand what you mean and haven't seen a setting like that or another one like mine. They all have a V setting instead of a U if that means sense which i didn't like.

Sorry I never said where I got it from before - Lewis Grant. Same place I got my wedding ring as we now get a discount because we are such good customers ?

My h2b's ring doesn't match mine but I wasn't bothered about that.

Mine was Mappin and Webb. Wedding Ring was waltons of Chester, OH's wedding ring is Ernest Jones (His is actually palladium) - so none of them are really 'matching'.

I have always liked how mine sits into the band (possibly why it doesn't need any side supports?) - but hadn't thought about how it would sit with a wedding ring - yours actually looks better with them together with your 'U' on top as you lose the bottom of the 'U' with mine together.

I love looking from the side and seeing the whole diamond - and also like how its a round stone, but in a square setting - like of contemporary but elegant.

You can still see your U on the band from the other side though so you aren't losing the effect. I didn't like the round claws because they were more traditional so it must be the round and square together that I really liked but never really thought about it.

It's funny I ended up with that ring as I went shopping saying I don't want anything high or a solitaire! It's a really high setting I have but I'm used to it now so doesn't feel high anymore.

Whenever I show someone my ring I always say 'look from the side'!

Both your rings are beautiful, your good hard work of trailing round all the jewellers has definately paid off ?

They look really great! That's just the sort of look I'd like - all the wedding rings I've tried on leave a massive gap between that and the ER ☹️. This is my ER, so if anyone has seen any wedding rings that'd look good please let me know lol. Do you mind me asking which shop in Glasgow yours came from?

Hello, I feel exactly the same and will be having a plain band with my engagement ring. i wouldn't want to detract from the 'rock', especially as my OH bought it himself and I love it. a friend of mine got married recently and had one with diamonds in, more an eternity ring style and she has diamonds in the shoulders of her engagement ring to, and both are very pretty and it suits her, but I don't think that much bling would look right on me.

    Hi December,

How come the rings won't sit flat against your er? It looks high enough not to interfere so I'm curious what makes it stick out. You might need a band with a tiny notch cut out?

When I chose my er I made sure a wedding ring wouldn't need altered as I plan to take my er off when I have kids and just wear my wedding and eternity ring.

I got it from Lewis Grant in the Princess Arcade. There is only one branch now however Mitchells, Rox and Lewis Grant are actually all the same company so if you see rings in all 3 you like just pick one shop to go into and ask the assistant to get the others and then you can see them all together.

Your ring is nearly identical to mine but I think the band looks rounder and you don't have as big gaps in the shoulders. xx

    Thanks PG.

I think the band on my ER is slightly more rounder than yours. I did try on a wishbone ring which did fit perfectly only I'm not sure about it if I ever decide the wear the WR on it's own. Will keep on hunting xx

Lynsey, I think I've said on a previous thread that our e rings are identical, our wedding bands are pretty much the same! Good taste eh ?

My engagement ring and both our bands came from Chisholm Hunter in the Argyle Arcade if you're still looking December

    Found it!

It looks great, and I they you/we are right anything more sparkly would distract from the solitaire.

Out of interest is your ring gold or silver colour, in the first it looks gold but the second silver!

It's white gold but I think next to the new wedding ring it looks old and worn so definitely needs recoated. I'll get it done in the next few weeks and then I'm not wearing it until the day so it stays looking as sparkly and clean. x

Won't be too bad as I have a stand in ring! lol. When h2b proposes he used a dress ring as the ring he was going to get didn't arrive in time so he bought a fake that looked like it. In the end I decided to pick my own ring and just as well cos I ended up with exactly the style I said to him I didn't want!

    Hey L,

I think your w ring is lovely. It looks perfect with your e-ring, looks like they were made to go together.

Also, I saw your post about your h2b putting your wedding ring on and I remember one of my friends commenting after her wedding that her h2b's hands were shaking and that he couldn't get the ring on properly and she put it on the second half of her finger herself. I didn't even notice, I dont think anyone did, I saw him put the ring on her finger but I didn't know it wasn't right on, so you could twist and slide it yourself if need be! xx
