Wedding rings - engraved or not?

MrsACF, 12 February, 2014 at 10:38 Posted on Planning 0 22

Having a moment of indecision. Can't decide whether to get them engraved or not, and if yes - what with? OH is, at best, ambivalent - he's not exactly thrilled with the idea of wearing a ring as it (not for any dodgy reasons - he is just from a background where men generally don't wear them) so it will be up to me to decide.

What are you all doing?

Both me and my H have our rings engraved.

I got my engagement ring engraved with the date of engagement and my wedding ring has H's name and wedding date, and his has my name and wedding date. I was a bit unsure whether it was a necessary cost or not but in the grand scheme of things for £1 per character it didn't cost much at all.

I love it and often take them off to look at and smile knowing that, although someone will have the same ring as me, its not the same as mine as it is personalised!

Ours just say "Hisinitials to myinitials (and vice versa!) 10/9/11"

You don't have to get them engraved now, can always be done later if you decide you definitely want it.

My OH wasn't too keen on a wedding ring either but changed his mind once he tried his on. We have ours engraved but he just has my initials and I have his. My engagement ring has the date he propsed.

In a totally unromantic sense I think it's useful for insurance purposes should you ever need it because it gives your jewellery an identifiable marking.

I've been thinking of having my OH's ring engraved as a surprise. I'm thinking of having 'Put me back on' engraved on it. Or, as we're both fans of Harry Potter, I'm thinking of having 'Still?' engraved on one and 'Always' on the other.

If you go for laser engraving, you can have *anything* you want, from fingerprints to text to drawings Smiley smile

I'm toying with a section of fingerprint at the moment, although I'll prob change my mind again!

I've seen co-ordinates of where people met/proposed are getting married on rings as well, which is a lovely idea.

Ours just have the date .

Was tempted to engrave something like pooface (our nickname for eachother for some strange reason) in OHs though just for a cheap laugh.

We're having our wedding date and 'To Infinity And Beyond' engraved. If we ever get around to choosing rings of course.

I think we are going for: L Smiley heart (but a proper heart the right way up) J - 'Date' and now I have seen that some people have had their engagement rings engraved as well I will have mine done just with the date he engaged as our wedding date and engagement date are all very significant dates!

We've used first name, middle name, maiden name initials, but that also sounds nice. It's entirely up to you.

We were ambivalent too, so didn't bother at the time of getting the rings.

We also couldn't be bothered to try and think of something cutesy to go in them, and had the thought that something could happen within the following 6 months that might lead to the wedding date changing.

As someone else said, we can always add something later if we want to. For us it would probably just be the date.

Mine's only 3mm so no room for engraving lol and OH may not have one at all as he can't wear it when he's working which he does 6 days a week.

Me and OH have discussed getting ours engraved with the pet names we call each other, however I am only having a 3mm band so I don't think it will be wide enough to fit! ☹️

    Thanks all Smiley smile

I opted to have ours engraved in the end - waiting to get them now so will post when we have them Mine is only 2.5mm and OH's is 4mm and they said this is fine to do. So those of you with narrow rings should still have this option if you want to do it
