Snap! But all the ones we have seen have limits to how much you can put in-up to about £400 i think was the most. If you want to save more it seems you have to take lower interest.

    Did you have any luck?

Hi...Good thinking! Unfortunately it's not the right time to really be saving, economy wise...But, that being said, we have a Santander 1-2-3 account which pays 1.5% on up to 20,000 (be aware there's an account fee though so have to work out if the interest balances that out). A lot of the current accounts at the mo seem to have some good interest rates (think there's a Tesco one that pays 4 or 5% up to a certain amount. OH is a finance guru and has suggested check out http://bankaccountsavings.co.uk/ Hope that's of some help! x

MoneySavingExpert is great as they list the best accounts so you can compare them.

    Take a look at http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/savings-accounts-best-interest

I find Nationwide and TSB the best these days but you might have to have more than one account to make sure you're getting as much interest as possible as most of them these days have limits to how much you can pay in or how much of it earns interest.

Not a savings account but we have put a chunk of our money into Premium bonds dead easier to withdraw when needed and potentially chance to win every month which can be put straight back into the bonds

Have you considered an ISA as opposed to a savings account? Tax free up to £15240 and usually have very good interest rates.

I've split a bit into a peer to peer lending setup, which I know is not for everyone but has good rates of return

I like the idea of premium bonds but doesn't it take a while to get your money back out? We get married in Sept so may not be worth while for that short time....unless we struck it lucky! :-D

Really? I was under the impression you had to send a form or apply in writing. I must have a look on their website :-)

I don't think you have to pay tax on savings interest any more so you don't have to be restricted to ISAs. I second Money Savings Expert, that will have all the best deals, and it looks like savings account connected to bank accounts are the best bet. It's worth doing a rough calculation to make sure it's worth all the agro though, to see how much more interest you would get. The rates are so low, it doesn't make a huge difference any more! Good luck x
