    Hi,

I got my dress from Roberta Buchan and had no problems - it was 5 years ago so don't know what it's like now. Bridesmaid dresses were from Berketex Brides and again no problems. My SIL got her dress from June Brides 3 years ago and they were fine too. I have to say none of the shops I have experience of gave a really memorable good service but they weren't bad (if that makes any sense).

    Hi DianeB,

I would say Panache which is just across the road from the from entrance of BHS (next to St.Enoch). I got my dress and my BM dresses there and I thought the shop and the girls were great. I can't fault anything about them and they made it such a good day, got my 1st dress fitting there next week and I can't wait!

Wow there are sooooo many! Although I didn't get my dress there I loved the service in anne priscilla (it's just off argyllestreet up the lane at the side of M&S). There ar so many I don't know where to start! Other popular ones are Eleganza sposa, berketex brides, june brides. I've not heard any good reviews of capri skies but that's another one. There's three (or maybe more!) on bath street so might be worth a stroll up there.

Also looking further afield there's a lovely shop called diane honeyman in ayr, opus couture in west kilbride and lady g in east kilbride. These can all be reached by train from Glasgow city centre.

    Good luck! Smiley smile

I got my dress in Capri Skies and loved the service although there are bad reviews of them if you google. They have a massive range which is what I liked and didn't feel pressurised. I tried Lady G's in East Kilbride and hated them, Eleganza in Hamilton was disgusting and I felt like a lower class bride because I didn't have over £5k to spend on a dress. They make you fill in a form asking your requirements and dresses START at £1k but even then they don't have much at this price. I wasn't able to look through the dresses and they pick them out for you and put me in dresses I specifically said I didn't want.

Suelise in Hamilton was fab as well.

Got my bm dress in Panache and they were ok, nothing special but might have been because we knew what styles we wanted to look at and try so didn't need much help or advice. Liz from Hitched got her dress in Panache and liked them as well.

    Good luck x

Hiya, arrived at this thread a bit late sorry. As bluelady said Ive bought my dress from Roberta buchan which is also known as Sarah Louise bridal now. I had a great experience with them and they have loads of different dresses available.

I also highly recommend June Brides, the girl who dealt with me in there was great, very good at her job and good for recommending styles to suit as when I first started looking at dresses I had no idea what would suit me. Again they had quite a varied selection of styles and sizes. Well worth a look!

    Hiya :-)

Before I went bridal shopping I looked around on different forums to work out what ones to make an appointment at which was really helpful, my thoughts on each are below:

Opus Couture (about 40mins-1hr train ride as far as I can remember :-) ): This was my first appointment and the place where I ended up getting my dress from. The service here was outstanding - at the moment I am a larger size (16-18) and not once did they make me feel uncomfortable about anything (they also have a back panel to put in the dresses which is a lot nicer than being held together with elastic bands! ?). The owner of the shop spent 3 hours with me going over what styles I like, recommending styles for me to try on and talking to me about what colours suited me and what style looked best (though this wasn't done in a pushy way - she just got me to try on quite a few dresses so we could see the difference). The prices were also extremerly reasonable, if anything went over £1000 she would let you know but I think the majority of the ones I tried on were under this amount. In all the service I got here was the kind of service you would hope to get and I am very glad this was my first appointment as otherwise I could have been very put off the whole experience with the service I got in the next place ?

Anne Priscilla (in City Centre): This would have to be the worst shopping experience (never mind bridal) that I have had. When we arrived a very gruff lady came over and said what's your price range, do you like lace or sparkles and then sent me off to look at the dresses without recommending anything at all. Once we started trying things on she tried telling me that everything I tried on looked lovely when it was clear some things didn't and to top it off she told me that she had the 'perfect dress' for me. She then went on to tell me that they had ordered this dress in the wrong size for another bride and so they could give it to me for half price (not really giving me much confidence about ordering anything!), then she put the dress on me and it was nothing like what I asked for. It made me look like one of those toilet roll holders! I mentioned to her (in a very polite way) that I didn't think it really suited me, she then went on to tell me all the ways she could alter it never minding the fact that I clearly didn't like it and she gave me the impression that she was just trying to force this dress on me because they needed to get rid of it. I wasn't sure if it was just me being a bit sensitive but my mum found her terrible and there was a girl trying on dresses in the next change room that was getting no help whatsover from her sales assistant either. So in my opinion I would steer clear of this place.

Eleganza Sposa (Bath Street): Had very polite service here but had to fill out a form and then they went and picked dresses for you going by the form so you didn't actually get to look at any dresses before trying them on which I found a bit strange. I would say I had a good but not great experience here but it was more of a sales type environment rather than someone talking to you that's a dressmaker and who can make good suggestions for you. Also some of the dresses I tried on were really dirty which was a bit off-putting.

Diane Honeyman (Ayr): Had a very lovely time here, if I didn't buy anything at Opus I would have definetly bought something here. The ladies were very helpful and not at all pushy and they had a very nice selection of dresses and bridesmaid dresses to chose from.

Angelique Lamont (City Centre): This is where I got my bridesmaid dresses from on the reccommendation of a girl I work with who got her dress and her bridesmaid dresses from here. Found that they had a large selection of bridesmaid dresses to chose from and they were very helpful. I recently picked up the girls dresses and I was very pleased with them ?

Hope that this is helpful to you though please remember that these are only my views and experiences ? All the best with your dress shopping!! ? xxx

AussieBride- Sorry you had a bad experience in Anne Priscilla but I have to say I had the complete opposite experience!

When I phoned to make the appointment they asked me loads of questions about what I thought I'd like, my budget etc, then when I arrived I sat with my Mum and Sister as the assistant went round the shop and picked out dresses she thought I'd like, before bringing them over to me and explaining why I'd like them and showing them to me. Then she said I could go round and see if she'd missed anything I liked. She hadn't. I then went through with her to the fitting rooms and started trying on. She was lovely and chatty and was very honest when I tried on a few that did not suit me. She was also very helpful and complimentary when I found the one I loved. It was by far my best dress shopping experience so far!

So I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. They really go above and beyond to make you comfortable and to make the experience pleasurable.

I've also been to Berketex on Bath Street which was not bad but after Anne Priscilla, I have to admit the service was just ok. The other shop I've been to is called Mystique Bridal and is in Bridge of Weir, but that's not easily accessible from Glasgow unless you have a car.

In my earlier post I didn't mention Anne Priscilla. I didn't have the best experience in there either, I'm around a size 16-18 and when I was trying dresses on, they had to hold the back together with bands which I found extremely odd, especially when it was the red bands that postmen use!! She even pinged me with one of them!?

For some strange reason she took a dark red dress into the changing room and made me try that on as well. I hadnt even said I wanted a coloured dress! I heard from someone else as well, that when they phoned up to enquire about stocking a certain size of dress they said something along the lines of 'we dont have anything in that size!' I never asked when I made the appointment so perhaps thats why I wasnt overly impressed with the dresses I tried on.

Everybody has different experiences tho as Jen's post proves. I was more than happy with the service I gtot in Roberta Buchan but a friend of a friend told me that they werent impressed when they went there. I guess it all depends on who you deal with as well. You might encounter them on a bad day!

    Thank you all so much.

I've been to loads of shops but the most memorable ones were Angelina Lamont, Pinach and Signature.

Signature was great the staff were friendly and very helpful. The dresses gorgeous. I fell in love with one of the dresses. I looked like a princess, it was really sparkly with a massive train and a massive pricetag! Karen got her BM dress here. Chocolate brown and lipstick pink are the offical wedding colours now.

Pinach was a horrible experience. The staff were not at all helpful with Karen and down right rude to me. We left in a hurry. Now feeling fat due to their coments.

Arrived at Angelina Lamont. A lovely lady took as in hand and asked me to try on a dress she thought would be perfect. It was a great shape but too rucked. Third dress was amazing. I was spinning in the shop so I could see it swish around me. I loved it. I will find a picture on internet and post it later.

Thanks again ladies. I feeling very weddingy right now
