First of all, wow, this mens thread is pretty empty! (come on guys! its our wedding day too!)

now to the topic at hand, I am choosing my wedding suits, much like the bride gets to choose hers.

I really want a tweed 3 peice, not only do they look amazing but its also

http://www.tweedaddict.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/3piecewedding1.jpg a really nice suit to wear again!

something like that... i presume it would have to be tailored?

also what will the groomsmen wear?

I'm a bloke! Well first of all it's hard to tell from that pic what it actually looks like as he's facing away, but I do think when it comes to tweed you have to have a couple of considerations - 1. the venue, I think tweed looks great in a country house hotel type of venue, but maybe not in something more modern perhaps? I don't know, just personal opinion probably! 2. Depends on the weather, to me tweed is quite a heavy/thick fabric and if it's really hot on the day you might get a bit overheated? As for whether it will need tailoring, totally depends - the jacket I've bought for mine is a pretty good fit whereas the trousers will need taking in, as I have fairly big legs so I bought trousers that fit on the leg but are too big on the waist. So it depends on the fit of the suit and your physique really, you won't know until you try some on. Groomsmen - can't help you with that as we're not having them, I think from what I've seen people tend to get something similar for the groomsmen that matches the groom without being the exact same thing.

    Hi James,

Congratulations on the engagement. I'm sure there used to be more threads in here, but they must have been lost somewhere. But it certainly isn't as active as it should be!!

I manage Hugh Harris Formal, a menswear store in Woking, and a supplier featured here on Hitched.co.uk. We offer a full range of suits to hire along with a bespoke service. I have never posted on the Forums, although have been following this board waiting for a relevant topic I can help with. I will of course aim to offer mainly impartial and general advice.

Anyway, a tweed suit is a fantastic look and there is certainly a strong trend for the relaxed yet elegant feel that it offers. This is great for you as you might be able to find suitable suits on the High Street.@Goujon is right in that it does depend on your venue and overall look of the wedding, but I'm sure you've considered that already. If it is an option, I would definitely recommend a bespoke or made to measure suit for yourself. What better excuse to splash out on your first bespoke suit than for your wedding. You will almost always get a better fit going bespoke vs off the peg, and you can create the perfect suit.

You can get fantastic quality and a full choice of styles, cloths and features from lots of tailors up and down the country. Savile Row is of course the home of Bespoke tailoring, and whilst you will in many cases get a superior product, with the suits being made right there on the Row by accredited master tailors, you will have to pay for the privilege.

As @Goujon said, a traditional tweed is a little heavier, but you can find lightweight 'city tweeds' which are probably the best option, even for Autumn or Winter weddings - especially if wearing a waistcoat as well. Some staunch traditionalists will argue these aren't true tweeds but you will get the aesthetic and the look without the itchy and warm discomfort that is often associated with the fabric.

In regards to what your groomsmen wear, I would always recommend a three piece suit for them. Anything less, and they run the risk of blending in as one of the guests. If you can find an affordable 3 piece tweed suit for them, I would go down that route - having a tweed that contrasts your own could be a great way to differentiate yourself from the rest of the guys. We even offer a tweed suit to hire, and I'm sure there will be a few others around the country offering tweed options.

If a full tweed suit is too much for the guys, perhaps accent a regular suit (hired or bought) with a tweed waistcoat or even just a tweed tie. If you get your suit bespoke, ask your tailor about getting some ties made up in the matching fabric. This would Tie you all together. (Excuse the pun). This may be easier to source than a full tweed suit that ticks all the boxes in quality, fit, comfort and price.

Sorry for the wall of text, I hope it helps and good luck!!

Hello, my oh was very keen on tweed and I have to admit I hate it so I went on a mission to find one I liked as I felt he should have what he wants as much as I should have what I wanted and I found Victor Valentine. He went for blue herringbone and I must say the suit is amazing and the tweed is beautiful! It was more subtle than I thought although they do offer much bolder! We looked at having everyone in tweed but the suits are very expensive! We thought maybe usual suit with tweed waistcoat for them but we ended up getting them in grey checked suits from slaters. Damon at Victor valentine can help with colour coordination but you can go all tweed or mix and match and it works! They have loads of fabrics and the tailoring is superb! There are photos on my wedding thread but I can't add photos for some reason in here

My husband had a 3 piece with pocket watch! They do look very smart and you can dress them down to wear them after. Have a look round and find the colour/pattern you want

    Hi

Looking for a little advice regards suits. Myself and my best man are going to have some bespoke waistcoats made in a "claret and amber" tweed (you can see the colouring here - http://www.turnstylewear.com/bantams-trappers/ ) but I'm unsure as to what colour / fabric suit would best to match it?

The rest of the grooms party will just be in standard morning or lounge suits.

    What would people recommend?!

    Cheers

    Richard

    Hi Richard,

That tweed looks like it will make a stunning waistcoat. I always think Red and Blue are a great combination, so maybe look at dark blue or navy suits. I would avoid any brighter blues as this would make the whole outfit a bit to vibrant.

If you wanted to put more emphasis on the waistcoat, a dark grey suit would be a great option. Grey is a more neutral colour and is like black in that it compliments almost anything. This would really put that red and amber waistcoatcentre stage.

In regards to fabric, I almost want to say a soft flannel suit would be really effective in either colour. The contrast textures should work really well together. Although without seeing it all together though it will be quite difficult to make any firm decisions. How much time will you have after the waistcoats are finished before your wedding? I would certainly do some ground work now, and find a couple of suit options that you think might work. Ask your tailor if he can give you a swatch of the fabric for you to take with you when you go suit shopping. You can then make your final decision once you have your waistcoats.

    Kind Regards

    HI Qaz

Thanks for the reply, that is really useful. We have plenty of time before the wedding, as we're not getting wed til Summer of 2017 and I collect the tweed next month.

I have ordered 2m worth for two waistcoats - i was advised 1m per coat (if not a little less) so I'm sure I can take a swatch off it.

Thanks again for your help. Smiley smile
