Wedding things you like even though you know they are tacky...

knitting_vixen, 11 September, 2011 at 18:00 Posted on Planning 0 62

What wedding things do you love (and want) even though you know they are perceived as tacky by others?

For me it's those plastic silver horseshoe things that are given to brides to carry along with flowers. They are so kitsch! I really hope someone gets me one.

Hmmmm, this is a good question! I guess, a sweetie buffet is VERY tacky and I want one of those...ummmmm, not sure what else! A really loud, late disco is hardly chic, but I am having one of them - no uber cool Northern Soul band for me!

I am going to have a little think about this one!

    Balloons.

Well, I don't like them as such, but agreed to have a few in our second venue room, and they were a god-send! Kept the kids quiet all night.

I'd also have loved a vodka ice fountain - they are so tacky, yet so cool!

I know I'm getting at least one of those! My friend's little boy will be doing that as he needs a job to focus on due to his asperger's ?

What makes a sweetie buffet 'tacky'? I'm curious.

I don't know really! Maybe the fact that it is called a 'sweetie' buffet...it sounds like it belongs at a children's party. And the fact that I KNOW it is an American concept that has turned up over here...it just seems a bit naff really. Although nice-naff, as I am having one. TBH anyway of working some extra food into the day is always going to be a winner with me.

We've just called it a 'sweet table' on our table plan so far. I know what you mean about 'sweetie table' when it comes to kids parties but then again we weren't allowed to have jelly and ice cream as a dessert option at our wb Smiley sad

    Yes, that is your opinion.

IMO a sweetie table is tacky, however I don't care and am having one anyway...

I really want one of these too! I remember giving one to a bride when I was only about 3 years old - it's my only memory of the wedding day! I remember I kept dropping it as I was so nervous. As for other tacky things, our band does a 'rock' set and I was thinking about getting some blow up guitars for people to 'jam' with the guitarist. He often gets on the dance floor in the middle of the crowd from videos we've seen and I though people would love it once they've had a few drinks. I think my OH has vetoed it though as he thinks it's too tacky.

My Mum is one of those people that gives them out. I am not a fan, but no doubt she'll et me one! Bless her!

She also says it's tradition to stuff confetti down the brides dress and down the groom's trousers. Has anyone else heard of this or is she just a perv?!

We're gonna be full of tack - balloons, sweety table (which I might even get personalised bags for!), crystal shoes (which I LOVE by the way!), cheesy music the lot!

I find the cake cutting photo to be tacky but of course I will do it or at least fake it for the TOG in the day as we are cutting it later at our evening reception.

Oooh. Me too. Plus, ladies, will you be doing the 'slasher bride' pose, where you pretend to stab at your H wit the cake cutting knife, while all the guests laugh along like they've never seen it before? I know I will!!!

The general concensus seems to be that using any animals within any part of the wedding (with the exception of horses pulling a carriage) is pretty much looked down upon round these parts for a variety of reasons. The discussion always gets very heated too...

IMO I think it's tacky, but then i'm really not wired right when it comes to weddings. I think most things are tacky when it comes to weddings - garters, confetti, cake cutting photos etc...

An owl flying with the rings is just not necessary.

To some people maybe along with releasing doves but the OP asked what do we like that is tacky so if you like it go for it!

I think this was done on MBFGW some time back and there were a few raised eyebrows on here ?

Actually I think it is a bit tacky thanks to MBFGW, but I sponsor injured owls which have been rescued but cannot be released back into the wild...The rescue centre have offered me this as a "thank you" for supporting them.....The wedding is in a Harry Potter location so it could work.....I love owls and all our guests know about my passion for owls (they will feature on our invitations) so on this level it might be ok....It's the one thing I can't decide on....

See Hey Jude, yours comes with good reason for the tackiness. I like it for yours! No HP wedding would be complete without owls!

My OH and I were talking about the whole white dove thing the other day (not that either of us want it). I told him that they were just bleached pigeons, and knowing my luck they'd sh1t on my dress! Ha!
