Wedding Timing... how is your day planned out?

Kathryn_Tom, 26 January, 2012 at 20:20 Posted on Planning 0 15

Evening...

Trying to get my head around venue rental and catering but one thing always depends on another. So basically just wondering how is your wedding day set up? Early wedding and make a full day of it? Late wedding and party til late? I don't know what would work best.

Thanking you!

I think it all depends on what you want and your budget hun, as im on a tight budget, im having a late wedding, getting married at 2pm (although think i might change it to 3pm) and maybe only having one buffet instead of 2...

Where as if i had no budget, id be getting married at 9am, having canapes, sit down 3 course meal, buffet in the evening and working through it like that... all depends what you want hun xx

    Thanks for your replies!!!

ToniBen10 like you say it's all budget. I don't want to be having an early wedding

    1) I want to enjoy the day and not feel sleepy at 5pm

    2) We have to rent the venue per hour, OH has already said he would go couple of hours before and decorate but an extra 2 hours will be another £300+

    3) The expense of catering, we want to have a sit down meal but I'm not fussed on it being 3 course, just something decent, we'd like bacon butties and sausage sandwiches later in the evening rather than a buffet.

Trouble is, I don't want to consequently have a late wedding as then the day might go too quickly... there really is no pleasing me (poor OH lol)

I'm just a little miss fuss pot!

    Our provisional timetable:

    2:00 guests start arriving

    2:30 ceremony

Drinks reception and photographs to follow

    5:00 wedding breakfast, some speeches

7:00 move to evening venue (at the same property, but a different building

    Immediately after: first dance

7:45 Pause music, cut the cake, draw attention to finger buffet and sweets table

8:30 pause music again, rest of speeches

Dance, drink, eat, and be merry until 12!

Oh! but then when we retire to our overnight accommodation we'll have exclusive use of that as well, with our guests, and so will have a billiards room and music room with bars for us to continue the party as late as we want! Though I expect I might be tired and want to go to bed with my Mr.

Our wedding is at 12pm as, with it being winter, we have to make sure we get to the venue before it gets dark outside for the photos... dont know if this is relevant to you? Then the meal will be at about 3.30, evening reception begins at 7 and ends at midnight

    Hi All,

We have our ceremony at 11am, wedding breakfast at 1.45, followed by a garden party with 'evvening guests' arriving at 4.30, bbq tea at 7 and carriages at midnight.

Jem - Your meal probably won't be done till 6, 6.30 if its a 3 course sit down with the speeches.

If you are in a hotel type venue and guests are stayong there I'd iamgine a number may go freshen up or change. otherwise I would just make sure there is some music playing and let people have a chat!

I'm marrying at 1pm, meal at 3pm, evening reception at either 7 or 7.30pm (i'm undecided)

There will be a gap between meal and evening because I'm disabled and need at least an hours rest between the two aspects or i'll be fast asleep by 9pm and miss out on the evening fun and my Dad needs time to take my elderly grandparents home as they are only coming to the daytime part

    Our timings :

2.15 (ish!) Fish & chips, followed by speeches and then the pudding table.

5.00 Mini Break - Guests can go check into hotels/relax in the garden/Bride and Groom pictures

    7.00 Evening Reception Starts

    7.15 First Dance

7.30 Evening buffet (we wanted it at a normal dinner time because we have lots of children and elderly people coming)

12.30 RO wedding with immediate family only

2pm immediate family back at ours for nibbles/fizz/freshen up while we go off with TOG.

    3pm reception starts with everyone

    3-5 canapes/fizz/mingling

5pm cheescake cutting - it's going ot be pud so might as well cut before meal.

    5-7 hot buffet meal

    7-8 ipod playlist

    8pm band (2 x 60 minutes, timings tbc)

    11pm carriages.

It's very much a family affair with loads f children so I suspect quite a few won't last til 11, but we'll see... :-) All timings are fairly relaxed so we'll juts play things by ear on the day a bit !
