Wedding Tips

Mollyraecoxon, 1 July, 2021 at 20:53 Posted on Planning 0 3
Hello Everyone!
I’m very newly engaged and we are looking at 2024 for our year!
I was just wondering if there are any tips or any money saving suggestions? Thankyou!

I think the starting point is working out your absolute TOP priorities you want to invest in and the things you might be able to save on / not as fussed on. I would also allow more than you think for some things, as I really hadn't factored alteration costs in my wedding dress.

For us the key things we really wanted were:

-Venue with space for outdoor ceremony (but nice indoor option!) and a venue that sorts pretty much everything for you rather than a DIY approach where you hire every little thing

    -A great photographer

    -A great band!

The things we decided not to fuss with are:

-Canapes at the reception (saved us hundreds!)

-Wedding favours (we haven't fully decided but have been to too many weddings where they get left behind!)

-Wedding cake: Rather than spend hundreds on a cake, we are having a cheese tier cake which will be used for the evening buffet, then getting a token £30 cake from M&S which we can pop some flowers on for the relatives who will eat some cake

Don't be afraid to ask your venue to tweak their packages to your budget - our venue was originally just out of budget but we asked them (very nicely!) what they could realistically do for us within our top budget and they adjusted some costs and made it work!

    Thankyou so much!
I’ve got a little wedding planner and i have wrote everything down!
With the cake i was thinking of having a ‘fake cake’ and then have a cheaper cake in the back that i can cut up!

Ah that's a great idea! ultimately don't feel pressured to spend money on things for the sake of tradition - go with what matters to you most for the day :-)
