Wedding venue nearly an hours travel

Stephanie, 31 December, 2021 at 11:55 Posted on Planning 0 4
Hello! I’m hoping to book our much loved venue which is around an hour from where we live. All guests will be invited for the whole day but I’m just worried I’ll have people moaning it’s an hours travel when there’s plenty other places I could’ve chosen locally in their eyes. I was going to put on a coach which would have 2 pick up points then straight to the venue and a return coach. What’s everyone’s thoughts?
Thank you x

I think its your day you need to pick the venue you've fallen in love with. 1hr isnt that long to drive and you've even considered providing transport which is amazing they really cant complain. Think about what most people do for a commute to work (in usual times), most people would travel 45min-1hr to get to work each day.

I think an hours drive for a whole day wedding invite is more than reasonable. If people do start moaning about the travel you could suggest car shares or local hotels they could stay in which might be more convienent for the evening of the wedding to save driving back at the end of a long day. Even taxi companies, we went to a wedding about 45 mins away before and we shared a taxi back with another couple who lived locally to us split the cost, booking in advance made it reasonable cost to allow all to drink and enjoy the day.

    Hope this helps xx

I don’t think an hour is unreasonable for the right venue - esp not if you are helping with transport. Most weddings I’ve been to have been much further away (from us - not necessarily from the couple!) and we’ve stayed in a hotel nearby. I don’t think people mind travelling for a wedding - especially if they are there for the whole day.

    Thanks so much guys!
I just feel it’s such good value for money, it’s stunning and ticks every single box except the fact it’s not on our door step!
Can’t have it all I suppose dx

I think an hour or 2 is a perfectly acceptable travel distance for a wedding, our venue is around an hour from our house and we’ve had no negative comments on that. Our family and friends are not all in the same location so hopefully no one sees it as an issue. If so then less people to pay for!
