Wedding warmth

Louise, 1 May, 2021 at 08:09 Posted on Planning 0 6
Hello, I am getting married in March next year and after this year being quite cold and a bit rainy in places, it dawned on me a wedding dress may not be enough! I will obviously have my prosecco coat on but not til after the kids go to bed which could be mid evening at an event like a wedding. I was wondering what other people would or have gone for to keep warm? Thanks very much!

My best friend got married in Winter years ago now but I always remember she had a white fluffy bolero style jacket she wore over the dress. It looked lovely and definitely warm so maybe something like that?

Ooh ok, my appointment at the dress shop is early june and after reading the post about getting a dress nothing like what u had in mind I'm going in very open minded. I wonder if they would have a bolero in there to try as well? Thanks very much, I might be that person and phone them ahead of time to ask 🙈

I see so many winter weddings where the bride is freezing even with their prosecco coat on. Definitely go for a bolero or something that you can easily slip on and off if you do not want it in the photos. A standard fury bolero I think can be brought from many places and not necessary a bridal dress shop. Or look for a lace one that you may find in the shop that comes with the dress.

Be weary of going for a shawl as they can be hard work keeping on your shoulders whilst holding and handling a bouquet and generally moving around if you have it on in the photos but are ok just to slip on and off for the photos. What about going for a sleeved dress which will help stop you from getting too cold.

An issue is that if you go for a dress that you love but is not practical for the weather then its going to be covered up by something to keep you warm in the photos anyway.

    And don't forget the bridesmaids.

Here are a couple of dresses with sleeves. The first one you can see outside that there is still frost on the ground even later in the day.

I will definitely take this on board about the bolero and wraps so thank you, but a sleeved dress I feel is definitely off the cards 😖 I am not a dress person and am finding this experience quite daunting. And march is so in the middle of winter and spring it could go either way! So something fixed like sleeves and u can guarantee the hottest march ever! A bolero is sounding pretty good and I will be trying one out for sure. Thanks again!

One of my friends got married with a stunning cape over her dress - that could be another option?

I did have a look at capes bit I'm not too sure it would suit the dress I would like, I have been looking at ball gown style dresses and I'm not sure a cape would work with that. I will of course keep it in mind though for when I have my dress shop appointment and come away with a completely different style! (Who knows maybe even sleeves bill hadden 😉)
