Weddings in Greece

Flowerbomb, 10 January, 2025 at 15:48 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 1 7

Hi all, My partner and I are considering getting married in Greece in 2026, however, we have no idea where to start.

We don't want to spend a lot of money, nor do we want our guests spending a lot of money to fly out for the wedding, hence why Europe.

We're stuck between picking a holiday resort place (for eg. through Tui) and getting married there with them, or finding a wedding venue to go to on the day where we can get married and have a meal and drinks afterwards.

We just don't know how to start planning.

Has anyone got there wedding booked in Greece, or got married in Greece that can share their experiences and advice?

Thank you

    Hi Flowerbomb,
I recently got married in Greece - we were on a very strict budget ourselves, and we fell in love with Crete, and specifically Chania. Turns out, the island offers outstanding value for money, and also the Chania area is pretty underdiscovered, still. I have put together my experience planning my wedding from abroad on a website - Big Fat Greek Day . I planned my wedding from Amsterdam, without a wedding planner, and I must say that the vendors were very cooperative. I understood that they prefer working directly with couples over working with planners. However, I hired a wedding coordinator to take over on the wedding day, so that I have peace of mind.

In my opinion, the most important thing is to find a venue first - the venue indicates the vision and vibe of your wedding. And I hope I won't stress you when I say that the good wedding venues book out at least 1 year in advance.

If you have any questions, please feel free to post on the thread and I will follow up.

Foodle is a word-guessing game with a gastronomic theme. Instead of providing direct clues to your companion, you are required to describe the food in a manner that enables them to identify it.

Hey Flowerbomb, we originally looked at Greece for ours too so I did a little research. Crete is a fantastic place to get married and seems to have the most options. If you look on websites that hire larger places (like sleeps12 etc) you can often find smaller hotels where you can hire out the whole resort (also doable on booking.com). Vendors were very helpful. One thing I would say is if you are wanting for it to be a legal ceremony out there, there are a LOT of hoops to jump through. I'd recommend getting married legally in wherever you're based first, and then doing the ceremony out there.

Also I'd ensure to allow a little wiggle room in your budget in case the euro/pound conversion changes if you're UK based.

    Hope the planning goes well!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading everyone's perspectives on weddings in Greece! The breathtaking scenery and rich culture make it a wonderful destination. I found the local vendor geometry advice quite useful, especially the section about finding an excellent photographer who is familiar with the area.

Totally agree with this — Crete is probably one of the easiest and most flexible options in Greece, especially if you want to hire out a smaller hotel or villa and keep things intimate. The legal side can be a real headache though, so doing the paperwork at home and treating Greece as the “celebration” ceremony is honestly the least stressful route. This platform https://rainbet-aus.com/ provides instant access to games without downloadsGood shout on budgeting for exchange rate changes too — that can catch people out. Sounds like you’ve done your homework, hope it all comes together nicely!
