Weddings in Spain

Hi everyone!
Does anybody know about the legalities of getting married in Spain for UK residents? I was under the impression that if one or both of us were catholic we could marry in a Catholic Church in Spain but when i started looking into it and asking for advice on TripAdvisor I was just abused for not doing my research so I deleted the post.

Hoping someone might be able to offer me some advice on here having already done it or attending a wedding in Spain.
