Weddings with a Twist!

ZoeR, 13 August, 2008 at 19:38 Posted on Planning 0 25

Hi everyone - hope everyone is well. I've not been around for such a long time!

I need to write something for a magazine article about weddings with a twist and I'd love to hear some of your thoughts about what kind of 'twists' you are using, or perhaps you've been to a wedding where the couple have had some sort of twist to the day.

Anyone got any thoughts? The kinds of things I have come up with so far are seeing each other before the ceremony for a private and relaxed photo shoot, leaving the church in a hot air balloon, wearing a coloured dress, holding the ceremony somewhere really unusual, having a cake made up just of apples - so any other ideas would be really welcome.

Thanks

Z

We sent the morning of our wedding together, but then we were in Barbados

Cariad's OH turned up in a Del Boy van

My cousin was too nervous to do a speech, but loved karaoke, so he sung a song to his new bride instead

Our friends got married in Seoul and part of the family bit of the cermony involved the groom carrying his new MIL round the room piggy back

    Cheesecake's are still quite unusual

Hey, great ideas! Loving them! I particularly love the idea of the VW Camper and the 70s funk night! Off to follow that link, Sherri!

    Any more ideas from anyone?

Are coloured dressed thought to be different these days? I got wed in cerise and only 5 people knew before the day. Funnily enough I don't remember anyone saying 'oooh, you're wearing cerise'! maybe they were all whispering about me not being in white behind my back....!!!!

I work in theatre, and in one of the theatres i used to work in someone hired it for their wedding. The show at the time was Disney's Beauty and The Beast, so they got married on the stage and everyone (bride and groom included) dressed as different Disney characters!!

I used to be friends with some people who got married here

    https://www.showcaves.co.uk/furtherinfo/weddings.html

and then they hired a cottage and had a flintstones party. Last time I saw them was a few weeks before the big day and they were busy painting cardboard scenery and making costumes for their children.

I suppose its not mega unusual but I'm turning up in an old style vw beetle with my friend driving and the BMs are in a campervan; we're having the reception in a tipi in MILs garden and its a morroccan type theme-tagine etc for main meal then we've got 2 suckling pigs for evening.

I had a red dress, which was still very unusual 7 years ago (? can't believe it's our 7th anniversary in a few weeks). We also saw each other before the ceremony, but seeing each other before the ceremony isn't that unusual in many countries.

There is one thing we do at weddings that is still fairly unusual and that is a wedding day edit, it's a clip of footage of the prep and ceremony, fully edited to music and shown on a big screen during the evening reception. Always brings down the house and most people are in tears.

What a fab idea! I think something like this is great, and very unusual. I've never heard of it.

That's a lovely idea, especially if there were people that couldn't come to the ceremony. However I was thinking through that how heavy must her bouquet have been with all that beadwork!

That bouquet was very heavy, it took her 18 months to make and there are literally about 3 million beads in it! ? She also made the bridesmaids bouquets out of beads, as well as the buttonholes, table and cake decorations.

Thanks for all the ideas everyone - I think some things like seeing each other before the wedding and coloured dresses are so cool for making your day even more special and for reducing the stress too! In some places things like these are not so unusual ... why is it taking so long to catch on here? We still embedded into outdated traditions.

And love the idea of the theatre and the disney characters! So cool

Thanks for the help girls - anyone else got any more to add?

The only unusual thing about our wedding is that we are splitting the wedding up. We are having the ceremony and wedding breakfast at the venue on the wednesday and then the wedding reception at another venue on saturday.

We are also not going somewhere hot for our honeymoon, we're off to Vancouver and Seattle.
