What are your (and friends/family's) dogs names?

Janna, 20 May, 2009 at 21:16 Posted on Off Topic Posts 1 63

Inspired by the car thread ?

We're (hopefully) getting a puppy in the summer so I hoped you'd be kind enough to tell me the names of dogs you know please?

If your name is picked, the lucky winner will get..... er.... a nice warm fuzzy feeling?

?

A few names which have really stuck in my mind...

A family I know are really gifted at giving animals names which really suit. They had Cromwell the German Shepherd, Gulliver the Irish Wolfhound, Moses the spaniel, just to name a few over the years. Presently it's Daphne the choc lab. There again, they also had a cat called Nobby Malone ?

My first dog all of my own was called Bailey, bless him.

I'm also thinking about Gerald Durrell, who according to his memoirs had two dogs when he was a boy called Widdle and Puke ?

My mum has Dylan the dog, which is shortened to Dill dog but you do have to be careful as I have been known to Shout *** in the back garden for the dog.

    I also know a

    Shadow

    Parsley

    Sky

    Basil

    Storm

I also met two puppies the other day who were called Ebony and pearl.

I have a Barney and a Fern (neither chosen by me, would loved to have called a labrador Yates) - Fern I quite like, there are a lot of Barneys around. Over the years I've also known

Asda, Remus, Venus, Verdi, Hanley, Rennie, Umber, Jade (these were some of the ten puppies my mum puppywalked for Guide Dogs whilst I lived at home - again, all the names unchosen by us).

Also Mimi, Jed, Molly, BBD (big brown dog), Basil, Cooper, Rambo, Jess, Giles, Gilly, Sunny, Pluto.

I love the idea of dogs with human names - love Colin for a dog (but I married a human Colin so that would be tricky!).

Do you know what puppy type you'll get?

Actually (can you tell I'm warming to the theme of this thread?) I quite like the idea of naming dogs with the least animal-type names possible. Chris, Martin, Malcolm, perhaps ?

We have milo because he looks like the dog from the mask, have had in the past kasha and misty.

Next doors dog was called Anna which was interesting when calling either of us on the back street as I'm Hannah ?

I've also known gertie, jack (the jack russell), ricky, patch, zack, holly. Dave's a good name for a dog!

Our first dog (a lab) was called Tag after the fox in the film The Belstone Fox. Love that name. Their current choices are Rosie and Jemma (on the lines of Rosie and Jim - the kids prog).

If I had a dog I'd love to call it Byron (but I'd only have bitches so that's never going to work!!!)

We had a golden retriver/lab when I was growing called Goldie, a couple of months after the Blue Peter dog (same breed as ours) was named the same!! I always liked the name Benji for a dog but have some strange feeling that it was because I'd seen a film with a dog named this as a child. Good luck with choosing the name, hopefully 1 day I can persuade my partner to let us get 1!

We had a springer spaniel called Tammy, or Tam for short. She was the best dog in the world ❤️ . I loved having a dog as a kid, but couldn't imagine having one now that I have two kids of my own!! They take so much work - walking, feeding and cleaning up after ! Maybe one day.

Family dogs have been Hunny, Fergus (Gussy), Ben, Nina, Nancy and Carter. 2 labs, 1 golden retriever, 1 greyhound, 1 scottie / westy cross and a Hein57. The Dreaded's have had Tish, Kim and Scampers, all Heinz57s.

If we ever got a dog (and given that he won't let me have chickens, I doubt it would ever happen) we would call it Steve.

We had a Tara and then a Charlie. We had been told Charlie was going to be a female, in which case we'd picked Brandy. Quite why we felt it had to be for a girl, who knows.

My H's family had a Frosty.

My best friend has a Marley.

My sister's IL have Max, Shane and Skye.

My gran had tons of dogs - can't remember all the names but some were Nicky, Rex, Kim and Timmy.

My friend has a Piko and a Coco
