What colour bridesmaid dresses to go with Stuart tartan kilts?

Iona1651, 14 October, 2013 at 16:43 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi everyone.

I'm in a dilemma about what colour to chose for 1 bridesmaid same age as me and her 5 year old daughter. My htb will be wearing his 'Stuart' kilt and so will his 2 brothers. Anyone else had this dilemma before?

Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated.

What colour is a Stuart Kilt? Do you have a picture?

Sorry. I didn't realise there were different 'Stuart' tartans. I thought Stuart described what it is.

It's red. Hopefully a picture similar attached.

My first instinct is the girls probably shouldn't be in red because it might all look a bit much - but then if there's only 1 adult bridesmaid maybe not. It looks very much like the tartan Trey wore when he married Charlotte in Sex and the City. Her bridesmaids were in champagne. You could maybe pick out some of the colours running through the tartan - have a good look at his own kilt to see what they are because there are different variations of each clan tartan. If you weren't feeling constrained by matching/complementing the tartan what colour would you have gone with?

I think yellow would really compliment this kilt. What time of year are you getting married? Yellow is gorgeous for a spring/summer wedding x

Yeah I would suggest choosing one of the colours from the kilt - red, cream, blue. I would choose a slightly deeper tone of these colours, so if you choose red, go for a deep red rather than bright so that it isn't too clashy. If that makes sense. Sorry, I'm an artist so I'm really picky about my colours! But I would defo pick one of the ones that run through the kilt.

It may well do but I'm not Scottish so I'm afraid I was still none the wiser ?

Thanks for the pic. It's quite a strong tartan so I would worry another strong shade might look too much? I would probably go for a cream or a grey. Or at least a neutral of some sort.

I've been to quite a few weddings where Stuart tartan has been worn. Bridesmaids have been in navy, taupe, black or dark green. My favourite was the dark green.

Ha ha. I'm not Scottish either - it's just what my other half has told me - serves me right for listening to him!

Thanks everyone for the replies - will take all on board what you suggest.
