What colour do you have in your hallway?

Gryfon, 26 October, 2008 at 09:22 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 10

Mr G is currently plastering it (well trying his best) and then I need to choose a colour for it. This colour needs to go all the way upstairs and the only thing I really don't want is magnolia!

So what do you have on your walls and floor? Need some inspiration ? All I know is that I need something light really because the hallway can look a bit dark. Oh and also would you paint the stairs bannister which is wooden and panelled the same colour gloss or go for a cream/white?

?

We have something called - Almost Oyster its what Iw ould call a pinky warmish cream.

I would go for white or something a bit darker TBH just a shade not loads darker for the woodwork

Oooo that sounds nice. I did think of pink but then I could only imagine bright pink which didn't help ? At the moment our kitchen is yellow and dark blue, lounge is gold and red and my room is blue and lilac so I do like strong colours, I just think it'll be a bit overwhelming. Mr G did suggest midnight blue and whilst I do love that colour I just don't think the hall is the place for it ? Tempted to do the basement midnight blue when it's finished and put "stars" in the ceiling ?

We have 2 tone int he dining room that and a shade or 2 darker but I cant remember what its called!

I think the wood is in something like capuccino or truffle

Most of our hall, stairs, landing area is a very light taupe (don't ask me, thats what dulux calls it) and the wall which is up the side of the stairs is blue. Less chance of marks as there is no bannister on the wall. Would doing something like that work for you?

Oh, and the woodwork is white, the doors into rooms are varnished and haven't decided about understairs doors - maybe blue.

We've got black gloss below the dado rail and then brilliant white gloss above it and on the ceiling. You'd think itd be dark with the black gloss but the light reflects off it and it looks fabulous. It's obviously quite a modern look which I guess might come back to bite us on the bum when we come to sell but we love it. (It leads through from our black gloss front door to our living room which is completely white with one black wallpapered feature wall and black furniture). I was going for the dramatic look! ?

Light plum on the walls - the bannister will be gloss white when we have repainted it!

The floor in the hall is cream tiled and the carpet up the stairs (again when we have it) will be cream.

Our hall/stairs/landing is very light though. (1 huge window in the hall and 2 on the landing). We will also be putting up white voile panels at the windows.

We've got this wallpaper on our hall, stairs and landing http://www.zoffany.com/pages/products/products_wallpapers-detail/elementi1/1/#. Although it's quite a dark colour it looks fabulous with the metallic effect. I think you can go with darker colours and get away with it if you have good lighting. Our woodwork is white.

We don't really have a hallway as such as our house is tiny, but the bit by the front door is magnolia ?

Oooh, spooky, they're exactly the colours we have!
In the hall, we have a very pale green. It's from the dulux mix it up range, and it was called jungle green. We had one from right near the pale end of the card. It was hard to chose something so pale, but I'd just had a disaster in the kitchen by choosing too bright a colour, so I was in cautious mode!
Here's a half decent pic of it https://www.flickr.com/photos/22351913@N07/2974660702/
