What don't you like at weddings?

*Mini*, 30 of March of 2013 at 17:56 Posted on Planning 3 569

Its been ages since we did one of these and we have lots of lovely new shiny Hitchers to join in!

So the question is what don't you like at weddings? Chair Covers? Horse Drawn Carriages? Men in top hats? could be anything. The fun is to see what you have that others don't like and vice versa.

I will start;

Matching grooms/ushers/father of the bride

Cravats

Sweetie buffets

Balloons.

Your go.....

Love a good wedding, I don't think there's anything that I don't like as such, but there were some things we knew we would not want in ours.

The formal parts like sit down dinner.

    Chocolate fountain.

    Top hat and tails.

    Errr that's about it!

Matchy matchy - where everything is exactly the same shade & it's a sea of organza ribbon and coloured plastic crystals.

Balloons - I'm scared of them & kids just end up grabbing them & then crying when they pop.

    That's it really

I'm with *mini* on balloons and sweetie bars.

I'm struggling other than that, maybe old fashioned DJ's who won't play requests but I dunno if that counts?

Just remembered I don't like it when the guests are given empty photo frames to look through while they get pics taken.

    - Jordan style horse drawn carriages

    - owls, dogs, doves or any other animal involved (unless they are a seeing eye dog). ESP if said animal is wearing clothes!!!

    - BM dresses in any neon colour

    - Taffetta

    - Drunken BM speeches

    - Balloons of any sort, but esp balloon arches

    - Buffet style with paper plates. Firstly, you have to line up in a long queue, then balance everything on the plate. Then you have to get around an obstacle course of tables & chairs to get back to your table without the bread roll falling off or spilling things on your dress.

    - Plastic cuttlery- is it just me or does a fork prong ALWAYS snap off?

    - Anything I have seen on Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.

This is seriously a dangerous confession - but I really don't like birdcages as decoration! I know they are super popular at the moment, but they give me the eeby jeebies!

Ok me, I'm a little offbeat so there's many!

    Chair covers

    Those silver candlessticks

Rose petals on tables or aisle

    Chocolate fountains

    Ice sculptures

And I know I'm gonna be crucified here but vintage is starting grind my gears. Mainly because its over exposed in the media and mags

dont worry! This is an open arena. Think of it as cathartic ?

    Ive thought of more;

    Jags/Rolls Royces/Bentleys as wedding cars

    Almond favours

    Brides clutching pints of lager

Oooh, I could be here a while... Smiley winking

Non-religious people getting married in church

Frock coats (unless it's a Victorian style day) / top hat and tails (unless you're nobility)

'Cravats' - I actually like cravats, worn properly, but I hate the ruffle ties sold as cravats

    Matchy-matchy wedding parties

    Millions of bridesmaids/ushers

    Dove/butterfly releases

    Dog/falcon ring-bearers

    Balloons

    Chair covers

    2-hour photoshoots

Diamond Dave DoubleDecks DJs (a la Phoenix Nights)

    Choreographed first dances

    Couples singing to each other

    Think I'd better stop there...

top of my list is - You, I don't like you at weddings, always rinsing the free bar! ?

    Everything matching particularly outfits.

    Ill fitting hired suits

    swirly waistcoats

    Balloons

Flip flop baskets (its a wedding not the beach) sore feet is a small price to pay for looking fabulous.

    Speeches (yawn)

Bad wedding food- yes I know the ceremony is the important bit but to me food can be celebratory and I want to be served something nicer than what I throw together in half an hour after work.

Gerberas (my least favorite flower and they are often out in force at weddings)

Chair covers and particularly with organza sashes

What the h*** is a butterfly release? Is that even possible? Is there no end to what can be purchased in the name of 'wedding'?

I have a fair few things I dislike at weddings...

    - Balloons/balloon releasing (think about the animals once they have deflated and landed)
    - Lantern releasing (I know a farmer who lost this entire hay harvest due to a lantern landing on the bell stack)
    - Chocolate fountains
    - Matching grooms (change the colour of their cravat and waistcoat)
    - Being sat with 9 other people I don't know when they know each other
    - Pumpkin style horse and carriage (Jordan carriage)
    - Brides that get grumpy at noisy children during the speech (they don't know what's going on so give them something to do while the 'boring' stuff is happening)
    - Mobile going off during the ceremony or speeches
    - Animal ring bearers
    - Little back dress style bridesmaids dresses
    - Drunk brides and grooms (its your wedding day not a piss up at the local)
    - Cold fork buffets for the main reception
    - Fake flowers
    - Sweet buffets
    - Poorly fitted dresses and suits
    - When bride and groom smash cake into each others faces
    - Fruit cake
    - Fake tan bridal party (no one looks good orange)
    - Goldfish and birdcages as centerpieces
    - Veils attached to hats
    - PINK of any shade
    - Brides wearing red
    - Butterfly and dove release
    - Outside receptions
    - Brides that *** about killer heels (worried about your feet hurting take a page from my book and buy flat!!)

Anything to do with animals is a hate on my list

I could list a few more

I would like to add at that this is my own personal opinion and i may well have loads of things that others dislike, so anyone that has anything on my lost please don't take offence as we are all different and like different thing and not everything suits everyone this is what makes our weddings individual to us x

    Ok,

Fake tan (neon skin and white dress) nice!

    Tails and hats

    swirly waist coats

    horse and carriages

weddings with no personal stuff that the couple like (when it looks like its walked out of a magazine)

Children at weddings after 8pm. I can't relax without worrying I will tread on a little one.

Rock music at a wedding reception (the screaming kind)

    coloured wedding dresses.

    The fakeness

Sorry if I've offended anyone! :/

When i worked in hotels a wedding had butterflies in a tiny match box size favour for each guest to release, it seemed really cruel!

I agree I don't believe animals should be used at a wedding and often the butterflies die in those boxes before the releasing x

I cant understand how that is allowed. I would refuse to take part. either that or run round releasing them all early like in ET when she lets all of the frogs out of the jars.

Nothing specific for me other than never ending speeches, fakeness and ten bob millionaires in ridiculous outfits!

And yes, I AM having several things that have been mentioned on the 'don't like' lists but hey how each to their own :0)

Ooo and although I've never come across it, how anyone could do that to a poor butterfly ill never know!

    Ooooh, so much.

Top of the list would be single colour schemes - I hate when absolutely everything has to match and be purple.

Swirly waistcoats and matching cravats - ugh.

    Screaming children.

    Long bridesmaid dresses.

Bridesmaids all with the same hair style.

    Surprise first dances.

    Long speeches.

Pay bars. [ETA fair enough if you can't afford to, this applies more to people who spend £££ on other things like the following 5 things and other decor before food and drink, but people will spend their money on whatever they want to]

    Stretchy chair covers.

    Organza chair sashes.

    Mirror plates and crystals.

    Cascade bouquets.

    Sticky-uppy tiaras.

That Corinthians wedding reading ('Love is patient, blah blah blah').

    Dry wedding cake.

Grooms who obviously haven't been given a say in anything (whether of their own volition or not).

Obviously, though, it's such a subjective thing, and I know most of the things I hate are loved by other people out there.
