What evening food to have

Jo, 15 September, 2022 at 14:04 Posted on Planning 0 8
Hi everyone

We're having a pizza buffet for our main meal on our wedding day (includes antipasti boards, salads and gelato for dessert) which we're very excited about because we love making our own pizzas so feels very us!
I'm not sure what we should do for the evening food. We aren't having separate evening guests but I expect it will be boozy so need something to mop up the alcohol. I was wondering about a big cheese board, or sausage baps, but do you think people will be a bit bread and cheesed out by the time it gets to the evening? I'd want something simple that we could sort ourselves (delegated of course), ideally.
Also does anyone have tips on quantities? I wouldn't want to end up with too much leftover, unless we had takeaway boxes for the hardcore contingent to enjoy on their way home.
Thank you!

I love the Pizza idea! in terms of numbers for the eve it depends on what time gap you have from the main meal to eve food. Normally they say cater for 80% of your eve guests but I think that is if you are having extra people. if your meal and eve food is less than 4 hours apart I would cater for 70%, we did 80% and had loads left, our meal finished at 6 and eve food came out at 9. As your main meal is filling then I think people wont want a lot in the evening just some picky bits. I think your ideas sound good or if you want to avoid too much bread/cheese could you maybe do a hot buffet of things like chicken satays, goujons, mini kebabs, koftas and a crudites and dip selection with some crisps? This is more meat than bread and cheese. Personally, I think you could still do the cheese board as will be different flavored cheese than on pizza, maybe serve with crackers not bread and chutneys and then have crudites, dips and crisps, all good for hungry drunk people and easy to prepare!

Thanks Charlotte! Appreciate your thoughts! We had a family birthday party recently and the cheese got obliterated so I think you're right that people aren't too fussy after a few drinks!

I agree with Charlotte on the cheese - I think it’s different enough to pizza (which is a great idea btw) and it’s also something that tends to disappear around drunk people! Crackers rather than bread provide some carb contrast too. You could always add meats, pork pies etc. Our cake was made of cheese and it went down very well - and the leftovers were a tasty reminder of an amazing day (that kept for much longer than a cake would have done!). I know quite a few people who had a cheeky cracker covered in cheese every time they went to the bar!

Hi Cassy thanks for your message. We are having a relaxed wedding at a village hall on the shore of a loch. We are having oysters and crostini with our reception drinks.
