What exactly do ushers, flower girls and pageboys do?

Hoddy, 4 March, 2013 at 22:31 Posted on Planning 0 12

As said in title. Sorry if I sound stupid. ?

Just not sure exactly what they should be doing. I know ushers direct guests to their seats, but apart from that I am totally clueless ?

I agree that what PB and FG's do as they are generally too young to do much else.

Ushers are generally the skivvy's that do odd jobs that might need doing on the day, this can be showing people to their seats etc or help decorate the room.

Thank you! Now I don't have to look like such an idiot when I ask people to do these for me. I was going to ask for my 5 year old sister to be a flowergirl and my 3 year old brother as a pageboy.

Would a 16 year old and 20 year old be appropriate as ushers?

Yep, teen/early adults are fine as ushers, I think anyone that can hold responsibility is fine for an usher

"I think anyone that can hold responsibility is fine for an usher"

Hummm some one should of said that to some ushers I have seen.

And the page boys job is to polish the dance floor by skidding across it on his Knees.

And the flowergirls job is to refuse to be in any group photos

Precisely.... the ushers on the other hand can be very useful in gathering the right guests for any group shots. It can really speed up this part of the wedding photography coverage.....

You see the bride has a choice of friends to honour with a bridesmaid role and can have 6 or more, Whereas the Groom will only have to chose 1 friend for a best man, so the ushers can also be a way of giving a role to other Grooms friends, or quite often if say a Bride has a sister who is a bridesmaid then the Grooms brother will be an usher- that kind of thing.

They are official fetchers and carriers -if the flower pedestals are being moved from the Church to the reception its usually their job, or if photos are outside and Granny needs a chair bringing--usher job, flower girl left her wand on her chair, needed for the photos -usher job go and get it.

Many times the Groom will charge off until I remind him to send and usher.

Make sure that they realise that the role is not an honouree position and make sure they are aware they will be on duty, otherwise they will just stand around drinking.

And a little list to put ushers off! Can't imagine many ushers do all this!

Aren't Flower Girls supposed to sprinkle petals on the aisle in the path of the bride in front of her?

Much more appropriate than my OH's friend who volunteered himself as a page boy. The man is 30 years old. I think he was joking...
