what is the best accompaniment to apple pie?

fox-in-socks, 31 January, 2009 at 20:46 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 30

Custard? single cream? creme fraiche? natural yoghurt?

we are having proper roast dinner tomorrow (well, as proper as veggie roast can be ?) with apple pie for pudding. i don't really 'do' pud so no idea what best to get to go with it. what is your favourite accompaniment?

First choice vanilla ice-cream, second would be custard.

For me it would be bin the pie and have the custard and cream together. But I am biased as I hate apple pie with a passion. Sorry...

Ooo no can do icecream - cold against hot makes my teeth hurt <wince>

i'm leaning towards getting custard and double cream, so we can have a slice with each.

That sounds like an excellent plan. The thicker the cream the better!

Custard and a bit of cheese. "Cake or pie without some cheese is like a kiss without a squeeze"

I know I'm wierd, but I would have evaporated milk! But then I wouldn't have apple pie, I'd have crumble instead.

Mmmm, apple crumble with evap? Possibly the best thing in all the world.

I would have ice-cream as I love hot + cold. But as a second choice cream as then it's hot + quite cold. Definitely not custard as hot + hot is just hot overkill. And not cheese either, weirdos.

I'd like to be common and have evaporated milk with mine! Or double cream.
