what is the best time of day to get married?

Oz1, 25 January, 2012 at 22:42 Posted on Planning 0 16

Hi All,

Woudl it be better to get married at 2.30 or 12.30? The reception is about half an hour away from the ceremony itself. I dont want to be rushing through the day, but I dont want to worry about entertaining people either...

I'd go with 12.30 personally. Still gives you enough time to get ready in the morning.

    I'd go for 12.30 too.

I'm biased though as mine is at noon.

I'd go for 12.30 too. We've booked for 2 but am thinking of trying to push it back an hour.

I'd go for 12:30 personally. Your photos and wedding breakfast will take up much of the afternoon. I wouldn't worry about having to entertain people. All the weddings I have been to guests drink and socialise during any free time.

I had the choice of 12 and 2 and looking back now, I wish I'd have chosen 12.

    So go for 12:30.

I'd go for 12.30. We had 1.30 and I kind of wish we had stretched the day out a little longer. On the other hand, I prefer going to Weddings that are a little later in the day! As long as you have your Wedding breakfast in mid-afternoon and guests don't have to wait till about 5pm to eat, I'd say 12.30 would be fine.

We preferred 2 to give people more chance to get there on the day rather than have to stay 2 nights. Also means people can eat before. Also most will be leaving after work the night before, which makes more hassle for them - chances are most will arrive very late evening or stay part way (guessing travellodge on the motorway) rather than do the whole thing in one hit (3-4 hours when traffic is behaving, and summer fridays to the south west can be interesting!). Light not an issue (June wedding), would go earlier for a winter wedding. That said we're doing a photo shoot in wedding clothes up on the moor the next day rather than take much time our of our day celebrating with our friends to do photos!

I am having a civil ceremony so no travel involved and quicker ceremony but if I was having a church I would go for 12.30 - 1pm

I only had the choice of 2 or 3.30, I think earlier would be better then you can enjoy more of the day.

I worked as an event manager (weddings in particular) for years. I think if you are having a church service, you could get away with 12:30 but if it is a much shorter civil ceremony I'd have it at 2:30. The thing is you have to keep people entertained - otherwise you end up with a big lump of boredom in the middle - after the wedding breakfast until the evening entertainment starts. If you go for the earlier option make sure that the day is full of activity - sounds awful but people do get fed up and it ruins the mood.

I prefer later weddings so youre not waiting around after the ceremony.

We seem to have an influx of people worried about entertaining their guests! Strange!

I got married at 2.00 the day flew and ideally 1pm would have been better. HTH!

I agree 1pm would be perfect but 12.30pm is fine, especially as you have to travel a little bit

I certainly won't be providing entertainment for guests but I have been to enough weddings where the afternoon totally drags as the B&G take so long getting photos taken and there's a fair bit of hanging about between the service and the meal (doesn't help if there's an expensive hotel bar). There's a difference for you as the married couple wanting as much time to enjoy the day as possible and what's best for 100 (or however many) guests. The happy medium for me personally is 2pm.

Thanks everyone! This was my first post on here, its nice to have such a big response Smiley smile I have booked the 12.30 slot. I want to make as much of the day as I possibly can Smiley winking Between 2 and 4.30 I'm going to have canapes champagne, a photo booth and entertainer, have our photos done and mingle. I am thinking of having the wedding breakfast a little earlier at about 4.30pm and then have the evening guests arrive at 7.30. Wedding is now booked on the 13th of October! (No its not on a Friday lol) Soooo excited!

We are getting married at 1pm, followed by a 3 course wedding breakfast and an evening recetion starting around 730pm. We are planning on having a games afternoon (lots of children there) with big lawn games (sounds posh but isnt haha!!) and afternoon coffee and cake. I think it will be a nice way of breaking the day up and givng people a chance to relax. 90% of our guests are staying at the hotel as well so it gives them a chance to maybe go and have a freshen up before the evening reception begins xx
