What is the most important thing for your guests on your wedding day?

Sarah, 5 August, 2021 at 09:20 Posted on Planning 1 13

Hiya ladies.

Just out of curiosity, could I please ask your thoughts on what you think the most important thing is for your guests on your wedding day?

Whether it's the food, the entertainment, the making memories, etc etc.

Thanks in advance Smiley smile

In other words, what do you most want your guests to enjoy/feel?

I think for us we want our guests to feel sad the night is over (ie that they have so much fun it goes quickly and they're not flagging / over it by 10.30!) and that they've had a great party with good food :-) (and hopefully find the ceremony special!)

We have booked a brilliant band and are hoping to have an outdoor ceremony which should feel lovely. Otherwise doing all we can to keep the drinks flowing haha! I think also less is more, have been to one wedding where we spent a looooong time setting up a confetti shot, then a few big group shots, then we had to do sparklers later and it was a little too much if that makes sense?!

    Happy planning!

For us we want great food and entertainment for our guests and we want them to take something home from the wedding to remember it, so we are getting a photobooth. I think its such a good way to capture memories from the wedding and everyone can keep their photos. When ever i've gone to a wedding with a photo booth its always been a good laugh.

We are hoping having all families together for the first time will be great for everyone too, they can all meet each other and each families are all together for the first time in years too.

Literally 100% what the reply from Shannon said! Food and entertainment. We are having a dessert table and pick & mix sweet stand and a photo booth as its something for people to enjoy! Nothing too extravagant. I've been to weddings where they have had photo booths and its a lot of fun, especially after a few drinks lol Comes with lots of props and it prints 2 pictures - one for guests to take away and one to go in a guest book where they can write a message and is fun to look back at.

For us it's plenty of good food and drink, music to suit everyone's taste, lots of pics (one of my friends I'd obsessed with creating memories) and just a chilled enjoyable environment with no expetstion to dance as they may just want to chill and chat. We plan on getting married on Spain where venues close a lot later which facilitates this environment.

In some ways it depends on your guests, but to echo the above, food and entertainment! People have mixed views about how high a quality the food needs to be, but there definitely needs to be enough of it, because hungry guests are not happy guests! (This is where I’ve seen buffets fall short, strangely enough - and eating early with no food in the evening).
The entertainment will be what sets the mood, and the mood will be what people really remember, so a band/DJ/entertainer that gets everyone going and suits what you want is important.
And depending on your guests, drinks flowing! For me personally that’s very important as I very strongly remember one wedding where the wine was so rationed they ran out during the meal - needless to say memories aren’t very positive of that! But that may be more or less important depending on the guests.
I’ve also appreciated weddings I’ve attend where the couple have put thought into providing some sort of entertainment for guests at periods where there might be a lull, eg, if you go off to do photographs. Ive seen a sweet stand, interesting canapés, a magician, photo booth - all appreciated rather than just standing around waiting and drinking!

I want my guests to think my wedding was fun. I have been to weddings where the ceremony has been romantic with fairly good food but the reception was a bit meh because the DJ was rubbish so the atmosphere just petered off by about 9.

For us it's that our guests don't go hungry but also that they feel they know what's available for them and how they can plan their own day. On our invites we've given info about car parking options, availablity of the toilets at the locations etc and we've had good feedback that this has really helped as it's the small, practical things people can worry about.

I've been to weddings in beautiful rural locations but not known in advance the level of facility (e.g cash bar, when food might be so whether I need to eat a hearty lunch beforehand etc!) If all goes well it's fine but if a guest doesn't know it's a cash bar and only turns up with cards it's just a headache!
We've got a small but mixed need invite list and we're just trying to give them sufficient info so they can feel relaxed in advance Smiley smile

Food and entertainment, definitely! I keep getting caught up in things like what chairs to hire but my fmil reminds me food and entertainment is what people will remember. I am worried they will also remember uncomfortable chairs if we go for the wooden folding ones though haha. Anyway, fish and chips, ice-cream, cake, 2 bands, lawn games and a bouncy castle 😍

A welcoming, relaxed atmosphere, a pleasant location and good conversation.

Thinking back over all the weddings I've attended in the past, the thing that stands out most is the actual moment the couple got married, the people I was sitting with at the reception and the venue. I can only remember the food if something went wrong with it (one wedding where I couldn't eat anything because they'd forgotten the pre-requested allergen-free meal and another where the first couple of tables to attend the 'self service buffet' grabbed so much food that there were only scraps left for the last table, which was ours!) and the same with the entertainment.

So I'd put my focus on a welcoming atmosphere and seating arrangements that hopefully mean everyone will have someone they can enjoy talking to on their table.

Food. The thing I hate most is being hungry and having to wait to est so any sweet buffet etc to keep me going is good!
