What moments do i need songs for?

Anonbride, 9 March, 2022 at 22:06 Posted on Planning 0 10
So far I’ve got:
- Walking down the aisle
- Celebratory back up the aisle song

- First dance

- Father daughter dance

I’m planning on me and the bridesmaids walking to the same song, as the venue coordinator said that’ll likely take 90secs so I feel like two different songs would mean you hear hardly any of each… but I’ve just been on Reddit and it seems like everyone has two songs so now I’m wondering if just having one is super weird?!

Also, do I need songs for our entrance into the wedding breakfast/reception and for cake cutting (also when on earth in the timeline is cake cutting?)?!

Aaand do I need to be thinking of playlists to have on in the background for the wedding breakfast? And also cocktail hour?

Forget redit. Everyone has one song for the bridesmaids and you. It could sound wrong/disjointed if you faded out the bridesmaids and then started with a different one with you for 45 seconds each. And how do you propose to organise it. You would have to pre record both and also the fade in and out section. Some venues even struggle with fading music out just one song and sometimes it can sound like they have just ripped the needle off the record.

No need to over do it with the music.

no one has cutting the cake music

A few do have entering the wedding breakfast music BUT only if they want to make some kind of a dancing- in entrance.

You will usually be announced in and everyone will be clapping and whistling, no need for music.

Most people now cut the cake directly before the first dance. That way the extra evening guests get to see it.

Also everyone is gathered together by the dj for the cutting and then they are already there and set for the first dance.

Oh phew - this is such a relief! I thought it would sound disjointed and my aisle song is so lovely with an ideal moment around 90secs to fade out to instrumental rather than just cut off during lyrics so I'm so please to hear this is actually quite normal!

This is really helpful, thank you! Do you think we need to think about background music during cocktail hour and the wedding breakfast, or are these usually music-less parts of the day?

For the cocktail hour it depends on what you mean. Is that going to be directly after the ceremony because that is the time when you will be having photos and if the weather is nice then people are going to be outside so will not hear any music.

Almost always there is background music playing during the wedding breakfast in my experience. Usually provided by the venue through their inbuilt or wall speakers

The idea is we will be outside for cocktail hour - the venue has beach, decking and an indoor area. The beach is the ceremony, then there will be cocktails on the decking and I imagine people will be up and down on the beach, then we move inside for the wedding breakfast and dancing.

I know the venue has a speaker system as we'll be using that for the aisle songs, so sounds like we need to have a think about a playlist for some background music... maybe some jazz or instrumentals so it's not too disruptive to conversation! Smiley sexy

I don't think you need anything for the cocktails. Most venues seem have their own playlist of suitable background music for eating. Best check to be sure.

Our registrar has said to have some music for when the guests are being seated before my arrival and then 10 mins of songs for when we are signing. It is not a must hae but I like the idea as it fills in awkward silences and then when it goes off people know to stop chatting and are ready for your big entrance!

That's a really good point! Silences are so much more awkward and noticeable if there isn't any music on!
