What should my bridesman carry down the aisle?

pandorasbox, 11 February, 2011 at 17:30 Posted on Planning 1 15

As above really - I was planning on him just having a matching buttonhole and not carrying a bouquet. But now I wonder if he should, I would feel really awkward not having anything really to do or hold. He said he is fine whatever I want but I am not sure what to think. Was putting in a provisional order with a silk florist so it has really got me thinking. WWYD??

Definitely not a bouquet, he would look ridiculous (sorry!)

Is there anything a bit silly you could get him to carry - does he like any particular cartoon or anything? My friend had a Kermit the Frog in a little suit, it really made everyone smile and didn't look as ridiculous as a bloke carrying a bouquet!

Could he carry the rings to the best man?

Not sure otherwise but I'd stay away from flowers.

Are you having bridesmaids as well?

Yeah I absolutely think the same - steer clear of flowers! But then I saw this:

And also my florist wondered as I am having large sunflowers if he would look OK carrying just one. What is everyone's opinion? I def don't want him looking or feeling uncomfortable.

Oh gosh i dont know! He might get away with carrying a single rose or lillie? Ask him what he wants to do, he might feel more silly with nothing than carrying a flower, or he might rather just walk behind you. Hmmm this is a good thread to start!

Thanks a great suggestion, but nothing in particular.... it is his partner who has really strong love for things like Mini, Beatles, puppets... my brideman is fairly neutral about most things!

Hmm a good possibility.... I would get to watch over the rings, bridesman has a specific job, and best man still has to hold them til the right moment. Could work. Thanks! Keep the suggestions coming everyone, I would love to hear what everyone's views are on this. I am starting to wonder if maybe it would be simpler if he is just waiting at the top of the aisle, he can help seat my mum after she has given me away, and then do whatever he hs to do as my witness.

Yes I was wondering about a single sunflower. I have asked him, he said he will do whatever me and OH want. I know I personally would feel really awkward walking down an aisle not holding onto anything, so was trying to picture what would be more ridiculous for him - flowers or nothing lol

This was my first thought, but now I am second-guessing myself!

If you really dont mnd, tell him he really has to decide, as it is him that will actually be doing it. If none of you can decide flip a coin or ask a magic 8 ball! hehe!

Definately not a bouquet! I would say a single Rose if he wants to carry something.

Our daughter is having a Man of Honour and no bridesmaids. The original intention was for him to follow her down the aisle but we thought that might look a bit strange .. a bit like he didn't sit down in plenty of time LOL! So he's going to escort me down the aisle instead before Alex and her Dad and he's requested a very large floppy Justin and Colin type buttonhole so I'm doing one of those for him which he will carry o ff to an absolute 'T' !!

Haha that is a good plan! Unfortunately not one I can pinch as there is no one else he can escort so I am still mulling over the options. I def don't want him just wandering along behind me like he is late or something! I like the idea of him having a specific job, so I think the ring suggestion from cricket bride might be the only option really.
