What songs for Civil Ceremony Music

Michelle772012, 14 September, 2011 at 22:18 Posted on Planning 0 16

Evening all

I have been researching music to walk down the aisle to for 2 days now and although i have a few in mind we dont have a song together that means anything to us so plucking one from thin air is proving hard, anyone like to share what music you have heard or had to walk down the aisle to and when signing the register do you need different song.

We are getting married in a civil ceremony at Bath's Guildhall ( reg office) so no religous music allowed.

we do both like stand by me by Ben E King

thanks in advance for your comments and help x

    Hiya ?

We're having a civil ceremony too. I'm walking down the aisle to The Bridal March by Jonathon Cain. Then we're signing the register to You Belong To Me by Anastacia and Heartbeat by Jose Gonzales.

Not sure what we're walking out to yet.

    Civil ceremony as well.

To walk into - Etta James, At Last

Signing of the register - The Wannadies, You & Me song & The Style Council, You're the best thing

To walk out - Stevie Wonder, Signed Sealed Delivered I'm yours. We also had shortlisted Jackie Wilson, Your love keeps lifting me higher but that was vetoed as it was from Ghostbusters and all we could visualise was the statue of liberty covered in pink slime haha!

We're having problems deciding on all music to do with the ceremony, seems that most of the songs that mean something to us don't have the best lyrics lol. For example, Biffy Clyro - Many of horror. Everytime we're in the car my partner will say what about this, that, but I always wanted something that when I heard it I automatically thought of my partner. Do you think that song lyrics really make a difference??

I think it depends on your personality and when planning a wedding i find we spend loads of time thinking what will my guests think but if they know us surely they will see why and appreciate it, i like the beat to stand by me and the words are nice and for the signing im thinking something by all angels or even cascadas everytime we touch not dance version and on the way out starships nothings gonna stop us now lol just for the crack of it its a mix of what we like my H2B is 15 yrs older than me but we have been on the same page with the music thing just cant make a decision and stick to it x

We are walking in to Sharp Dressed Man by ZZ Top

We have chosen 4 songs for our signing the register:

Dust in the Wind by Kansas - to remind us that life is short

Journey of the Sorcerer by the Eagles - because life is a journey not a destination

Love Walked In by Thunder - it describes my OH's feeling about finally finding the girl of his dreams (?) when he had just about given up

Hello Hooray by Alice Cooper - because we're celebrating.

We'll be exiting to Sylvia by Focus - because it's such and anthemic tune and we had to have something a bit silly too.

Signing the regiser - Greatest Day by Take That, the first gig we went to together. Exit not chosen yet I want something really happy like Walking on Sunshine or I gotta feeling or something!

To me I think the lyrics do matter, some of the most lovely songs in the world (in my opinion) are ruled out because of the meaning in the lyrics eg. Love of my Life by Queen - cos its not a love song, its a sad song, about heartbreak.

I also really wanted The Beach Boys, God Only Knows - my Mum vetoed it cos of the line 'God Only Knows' whereas I thought it was perfectly acceptable because if you listen to it properly its 'God Only Knows what I'd be without you' OH wasnt keen tho so the point was moot. Actually on further inspection the debate widens because there are lines like

#I may not always love you
But long as there are stars above you
You never need to doubt it
I'll make you so sure about it#

Which actually confuse me, but I think it means if I die....

I'm walking down the ailse to Barenaked Ladies either Be my Yoko Ono (featuring lyrics such as, " If I were John and you were Yoko, I would gladly give up music genius, just to have you as my own personal Venus) or Life, in a Nutshell, which is about not wanting to change to be loved.

During the signing were playing Madness' It must be love and Queen's You're My Best Friend.

Leaving to Iron Maiden's Run to the Hills

I'm walking down the aisle to "A Glasgow Love Theme", from Love Actually.

Haven't decided on the rest yet.

We stuck with classical for ours and had a string quartet. They played La Rejouissance from Music for the Royal Fireworks for my entrance, and Mendelssohn's wedding march for our exit. During the signing of the register we had One Hand, One Heart from West Side Story, and Sun and Moon from Miss Saigon (which I arranged!)

I adore this song, I think it's lovely. It came on the radio the other day when I was in the car with OH, I hadn't heard it for ages and it made me feel all funny.

To me, the lyric you have quoted doesn't talk about if you die, I think it means that the stars will always be there, so they should always be sure of your love for them. That's just what I think though!

I know exactly what you mean. Me and OH really like Biffy Clyro and have both been to see them together 7 times (OH is a little bit obsessed with Simon Neil, total man-crush!) and we both wanted Many of Horror to play a part in the wedding, maybe even as the first dance. But then the lines like "When you hit me, hit me hard" aren't exactly the most romantic things to hear at a wedding are they?!

And then Matt Cardle went and ruined it for me anyway, grrr!

    Hiya

I'm walking in to Adele - Make you feel my love - the words are perfect for us

Signing the register to - Bruno Mars - Just the way you are

Walking back out to - The Beatles - All you need is love (this isn't definate but more than likely)

However we are really struggling with a first dance hopefully we can find something we can both agree on :-)
