What to do with a glut of avocados?

Flump, 11 November, 2008 at 18:28 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

They were selling 4 giant avocados for £1 at Portobello Market - I've just wolfed down half a one with some vinaigrette, but I still have 3 and a half left, and they're huuuuuuuuuge and very ripe! I'm out for lunch tomorrow, not at home in the evening, and same again Thursday - they won't last til Fri night I don't think.

What could I make with them that could be frozen, or would last a while - anything?

Any ideas gratefully received ?

Bargainous! I was going to suggest guacomole, but I'm not sure it will last til then. Shame, you could have had a chilli and chicken fajita night. (Fajitas are my current food obsession)

    Send them to meeeeee!

If you put them in the fridge they may well still be okay on Fri - it seems to kind of stop them in their tracks. Alternatively you could squoosh them on to MrG's face as he sleeps ?

You can freeze them if you mash them with a little lemon juice first - or as guacamole should work I would think

Well the freezing thing - mashed with lemon juice - I checked online and found a page from the National Centre for Home Food Preservation. Who knew there was such a thing? I suppose it depends what else you put in it with the 'mole.

Guacamole freezes well - I add tomatoes and onions to mine and its still fine. Or send them to me as I'm out of guacamole!
