What to do with left over fabric? creative ideas needed!

arnold2b, 25 January, 2011 at 21:18 Posted on Planning 0 15

We have ordered mochas fabric to make the cravats with, to match the bridesmaids dresses, but didnt realise the fabric was going to be about 5ft wide so we got quite a bit left over! I dont think it will be enough to make table runners which is a shame but what else could we do with it? we prob have at least 1m x2m spare. would like to use it for something on our tables, as they dont really have much mocha in at the moment, just pink.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

What about fabric napkins? That would be the obvious choice for me, not very imaginative - lol.

How about Cutting & hemming them into a Square or circle to go in the centre of the table.

This one is a Circle of thick cardboard cut larger than the bowl & then covered with a contrasting fabric rather than a mirror :

Cutting into ribbon is the obvious solution for me, and you can then use that anywhere, table decorations, favours boxes, round gifts to the bridesmaids.

Even on the invitions or thank you cards.

    in the flowergirls hair?

    Many uses.

Sorry to crash the thread but how much did it cost to order extra fabric?

I want a little extra from the BMs dresses to use as a sash for my flowergirls dress but have no clue about ordering this!

    Hi Kat,

Can you remind me of your colour scheme? I've got spare 'aubergine' chiffon fabric (a stole for my BM dress that we've chosen not to use). You are more than welcome to it if it is by any chance the right colour.

Are you having posy's for you or the bridesmaids? how about wrapping round the flowers/buttonholes/corsages (http://www.besthudsonvalleyweddingever.com/wedding-inspiration/ny-wedding-bouquet-trend)

what about hankies in pockets for the guys?

use it as a sash to dress up your cake table?

luxury napkins for the top table?

what about a home made ring cushion?

    wrap it around photo album?

wrap it around a book to use as a guest book?

make yourself a wedding post box?

Just a few suggestions Smiley smile

    Hiya Lou,

thanks heaps for the offer but it's a sort of Cadburys's purple / violet - like this, think aubergine might be a bit too dark.

    much appreciated though ?

Yey loads of good ideas thanks! I think definately around the flowers, then napkin ties and a square or circle for the centre of the table, to put the vase on. How do you attach the fabric underneath the card though, without it being bulky?

And any left over for the guest book.

To get an exact match for the dresses you need to order from the supplier of the dresses really, but they wanted £30 per metre! So we went in a local fabric shop and found almost an exact match much cheaper. It just happened that when the fabric got delivered it was a roll about 5ft wide, never thought to ask how wide it was!

and to match your purple, you might be able to buy some wide ribbon to match the colour?

Hmmm, that's a thought, thank you arnold2b. Might pop in to local fabric shop at weekend. Not sure ribbon goes wide enough really, might test it out as have some 75mm or something. Thanks!
