I had a saturday job working in the body shop, I worked for 5 hours every saturday from 10-3. It was fairly easy and I got 50% discount off everything too.

Paper round. It was a free paper, not one that people subscribed to so I often used to give up half way round and dump them ?

First ever work I did was a couple of days in my Dad's office doing filing etc when I was about 15/16. After that I was an admin temp and worked in various different places including doctors' surgeries, insurance companies and once a private cosmetic surgery firm specialising in gastric bands. That day was an eye opener.

I worked in the Bear Factory (the build-a-bear place) on Saturdays or Sundays in the run up to Christmas. It was okay, fairly boring most of the time but manageable. As I was the smallest they used to make me wear the bear suit for kids parties/busy Saturdays. It never got washed and it STANK in there, especially the bit you wore over your head!

I was too young (17) to be allowed to work the stuffing machine, but apparently old enough to handle the needles and sew the bears up. There was one girl younger than me, aged 16. We were all jealous as she got longer breaks.

The parents were FAR more badly behaved than the children.

One man bought a bear for his wife, and asked us to pierce the bear ears and put in some earrings he'd bought her. Then he dressed the bear up in a 'sexy' nightie (no, I don't know why we had a range of 'sexy' nightwear for the bears in what was essentially a kids' shop). He kept asking if we thought she'd like it, errr... she's YOUR wife?!

When i was between about 12 and 14, I used to do Front of House at the local theatre (selling ice creams, checking tickets etc). Didn't get paid other than getting to see the show for free but used to love it as I did it with my best friend whilst our other friends were performing in the show.

First paid job was in a sports shop when I was 14. Anyone who knows me will see the irony in this as I am distinctly unsporty!

Eclair's post just reminded me, before that I did do occasional filing/scanning jobs in my mum's surgery or my dad's surgery, and that was paid but only ad-hoc for a day or two at a time.

One of H's first jobs was working for John Lewis. They put him in the sports section before he started. Then they met him and moved him pretty sharpish to Books ?

BHS Saturday girl I was paid £2.11 and hour and I worked about 6 hours, got a Maccies lunch and a magazine to read and spent my wages at dinner time every week. I only did it because my Mum was trying to prove a point about the real world or something. Someone did a human poo in the changing room, I was asked to clean it up so I scarpered. I'm sure I've told this story before on here...

A human poo?! As opposed to what? An alien one? ?

Gross though. In my first proper job we had a phantom shitter. She used to poo in the loo as you do but then there would be 'brown' marks smeared up the cubicle, on the handle and light switch. Along with the occasional bogey too. Some women are vile.

I worked in a fish and chip shop for £1.75 an hour.

I had to scrub myself after every shift to try and rid myself of the grease smell.

Working in a bakery, good money but had to start at 7am on Saturday, lost count of the number of times I was sick in the toilets from being hungover. (In my defence I used to have to make sarnies and I had to make egg mayo. The eggs came hard boiled in some sort of foul preserving liquid that used to set me off everytime). Also got whatever was leftover at the end of the day, bread, pasties, cakes etc. As CO said, best job I ever had!

I was also an ice cream lady in one of the little ice cream/slush puppy stands in the shopping centre. My dream job, I LOVE slushes and dream of owning a little slush stall one day!
