What's wrong with this dress?

Kathryn, 20 November, 2020 at 22:27 Posted on Planning 0 3

Hi all,

I was due to get married in October 2019, but it didn't go ahead. I decided to sell my dress. One year on and it still hasn't sold. I'm not sure if its because I'm a UK size 6 (US size 2), and its not a common size. The dress has never been worn, and I'm currently selling it at 50% of the original price, which I think is an amazing bargain, but unfortunately no one else seems to agree.

I wonder if you could look at the advert for me and give me some constructive feedback on what the issue is? I have ASD so it may be obvious to you, but it might not be to me, so please be nice. Thank you Smiley smile

People like to be able to try a dress on. I'm a size 8 and my dress is apparently a size 8 but I've had it taken in loads and it still has to be taken in. So I'd add measurements to yours because a size 6 might actually fit someone a size 8. Not keen on the odd over-the-hand sleeves on yours but again, that can be adjusted. Also, there's still loads of uncertainty over weddings at the mo!

Hi! The dress is beautiful, I don't think there's anything wrong with the dress or the advert at all. I think it may just be a supply and demand kind of thing- basically there have been lots of postponements and cancellations this year and probably not many weddings going ahead. Coupled with the uncertainty of the wedding industry at the moment, I feel that maybe there's fewer people looking to purchase and also less willingness to spend currently.

    I wish you the best!

Maybe you are better off selling it in a shop? Some sell sample dresses, new ones(after a mind change by the bride about the dres or fiance), second hand etc. and take a small commission. That way brides can try it on and have the proper dress shopping experience. I think many brides wouldn't by just via advert online unless they are looking for a very specific dress and dresses that are from seasons more than 1-2 years ago are rarely specifically searched for. It's just too much of a risk without trying it on first and sample sales/some second hand shops offer last/this seasons dresses for something like 60%. Also missing out the bridal experience of trying multiple dresses might stop you sale chances. I think many brides that consider online shopping do it because of restricted budget and then even 600 pounds is often too much tbh. I honestly think your chances selling online are small.
I would try to find a local shop that sells it for you and accept the commission. I recently went to a shop like that(bliss studio edinburgh) and they say that dresses that are more than 4 years old are hard to sell so they only consider taking them on if they are special in some way. As your wedding was planned 2019 I guess your dress is 2018 season? So wouldn't wait too long to decide. All the best
