When do start looking for wedding dresses…

If you are planning on ordering from a bridal boutique you need to look a year in advance. I am getting married at the beginning of June this year and I picked out my dress in May last year. Order times for boutiques are typically 6-9 months and then you need to allow time for alterations. Seamstresses typically need between 2-4 months to do your alterations. Anything under 8 weeks is usually classed as a rush job and will cost you more.

I ordered my dress in May 2022, it arrived in November 2022 and it went in for alterations in January 2023, which will be done by the end of April 2023, which is 5 weeks before my wedding. So that gives you an idea on timings.

I am getting married Aug 2023, we started looking in May 22, and ordered June or July last year (I can't remember the exact date!). My dress is due to arrive into the boutique between now and mid-May, and I have my first fitting at the end of May. Some designers have longer or shorter lead times, it's best to enquire at the shop. One shop we visited had one designer that was approx. 14 month delay, whereas others were 4 months. If the boutique carries a variety, I'd suggest that you ask the stylist to only let you try on dresses that will be here in time! Some designers do a 'rush' service, but it can be very expensive. Worth talking to the boutiques you visit.

You equally may end up falling in love with one 'off the rack', which means that the delivery delays won't apply. Unless you pay in installments you'll just need to find somewhere safe to store the dress until your fitting appointments.

We get married 2nd July & I would recommend getting it in advance.

I ordered my wedding dress at the start of November 2022, it got delivered into the boutique last week, you then need to arrange for your seamstress to do their alterations (these get booked up quickly, even though they try to accommodate) it's better to have it sitting at the dress shop, than still in transit x

We get married in October 2023 and I went looking at dresses in June 2022, as lots of people told me it could take a year for it to be made / arrive at the shop. Mine arrived in December so it didn’t take that long but I think it can depend on the designer so would definitely not leave it too late. x
